Cover Lock Screen acquired by Twitter

At AndroidGuys, we’ve been long-time fans of Cover Lock Screen. It offers a customizable, beautiful lock screen replacement that other apps haven’t come close to matching. Things might change a bit around Cover headquarters as they announced today that they are acquired by Twitter.

In a press release earlier today, Cover explained their future plans to work with the social networking giant.

Sprint shutting down WiMAX by end of 2015

Sprint’s WiMAX network isn’t long for this world. The first “4G” network to launch in the United States, WiMAX was hampered by Sprint’s available spectrum and shamed by the speeds brought on by the launch of LTE on Verizon and AT&T. Having thrown in the towel on WiMAX and rushed to launch their own LTE network, Sprint is now paving the way to shut down their old WiMAX network by the end of next year.

U.S. Cellular intros contract-free plans, device installment option

U.S. Cellular on Monday introduced a couple of new options which could get customers to switch wireless carriers. Available immediately, three new Simple Connect plans allow for unlimited talk, text, and data. Basic phones get unlimited data at $ 40/month while smartphones are throttled at either 500MB ($ 50/month) or 2GB ($ 60/month).

Samsung Chromebook 2 now available for preorder

Announced a month ago, the new Samsung Chromebook 2 portables are now available for pre-order from Amazon and Samsung. The upcoming Chromebook 2 is projected to ship on April 28th (that’s three weeks from now) in two models: 11.6 inches and 13.3 inches.

NVIDIA Shield April software update released with new features

Qualcomm adds Snapdragon 808, 810 to upper echelon of mobile processors

Qualcomm on Monday announced two new members of the Snapdragon family of mobile processors. The Snapdragon 808 and 810 CPUs are both 64-bit, LTE-Advanced chips that use 20nm processing. Qualcomm indicates the two chipsets can support theoretical download speeds of up to 300Mbps.
