Alphabet Q1 2018 earnings: $31 billion revenue leads to $7 billion income

First quarter sees strong double-digit growth overall, with advertising driving a bulk of the business.

Alphabet, the parent company comprised of Google and various other subsidiaries, has just released its Q1 2018 earnings. Chronicle, a cybersecurity firm, is the latest to join the Alphabet family

Chronicle is joining the Alphabet family alongside the likes of Google, Nest, and Waymo.

Google, Nest, and Waymo are some of the biggest names that live under the Alphabet conglomerate that was launched back in 2015, and on January 24, Chronicle became the latest to join it. Chronicle is a cybersecurity firm that first got started in the X moonshot factory nearly two years ago, but it’s now ready to launch as its own independent company.

Eric Schmidt leaving Executive Chairman role, becoming ‘technical advisor’ at Alphabet

January will bring a big change at the highest ranks of Alphabet.

Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt is stepping down from his position as Executive Chairman of the Board at Google’s parent company Alphabet. He will remain at the company in a new position as a “technical advisor,” and remain on the Board of Directors in a typical member capacity, building on his 17 years at the company thus far.

Alphabet posts revenue of $26 billion as hardware unit gains momentum

Alphabet’s Other Bets are starting to pay off.

Google’s parent company Alphabet posted Q4 2016 earnings of $ 26 billion, an increase of 22% from the $ 21.3 billion it netted during the same period in 2015. Profits also saw a healthy increase to $ 5.3 billion, up $ 300 million from last quarter.

Nikon and Alphabet subsidiaries teaming up to develop advanced screening for diabetic eye disease

Everyone could use a little feel-good news to end the year on.

A new partnership between Nikon’s subsidiary Optos, and Alphabet’s research organization Verily Life Sciences (formerly known as Google Life Sciences) will look at developing new machine learning-enabled retina screening processes to help diagnose diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema, the leading causes of blindness among adults around the world.

Morgan Stanley says the Pixel will bring in billions for Alphabet

Wall Street wizards bullish on Google’s Pixel phones.

According to Business Insider, Morgan Stanley analysts think the Pixel and Pixel XL are going to be really good for Alphabet’s bottom line.

To be clear, the Pixel isn’t going to sell nearly as many phones as Samsung or Apple, but the finance wizards say Google is on track to sell three million phones in the rest of 2016 to generate about $ 2 billion for the company  [Read More…]

Alphabet releases Q2 2016 earnings: $5.8 billion income on $21.5 billion revenue

Alphabet has released its Q2 fiscal year 2016 earnings report, showing strong year-over-year growth once again with $ 21.5 billion in revenue leading to $ 5.864 billion in non-GAAP net income for the quarter.

The company saw a rise in its revenue compared to the same period a year ago, when it brought in $ 17.727 billion. Non-GAAP net income was also up compared to a year ago when it recorded $ 4.829 billion.

Alphabet releases Google’s Q1 2016 earnings: $4.2 billion income on $20.2 billion revenue

Alphabet has released its Q1 2016 earnings report, showing strong year-over-year growth once again with $ 20.25 billion in revenue leading to $ 4.2 billion in net income for the quarter.

Nest reportedly falling short of expectations, could be in trouble at Alphabet

Nest could be in trouble under the Alphabet umbrella, according to a Recode report. The publication notes that while Nest pocketed $ 340 million last year, it’s below expectations Google had set for its acquisition, now spun off as a subsidiary of Alphabet. According to multiple sources familiar with the deal that took place, funding for Nest also runs out this year unless extended by Alphabet.

Alphabet reportedly trying to sell its robotics company Boston Dynamics

The robots of Boston Dynamics may be huge stars on YouTube, but that apparently is not enough for its current parent company Alphabet, which also owns Google. A new report says that Boston Dynamics is now up for sale.
