Amazon announces Fire TV, yet another streaming box

If you haven’t been able to decide yet between the myriad options for streaming boxes, Amazon has yet another new option for you: Fire TV. The new box, announced today, includes a quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM (which Amazon says makes it three times as powerful as Apple TV, Chromecast, or Roku), supports the requisite 1080p video output, and can do Dolby Digital Surround Sound over HDMI or optical audio out.

Sonic CD free on Amazon Appstore today

Want to bring a little 16-bit retro gaming action to your Wednesday? Sonic CD, the time-travelling Sega CD platformer first released on Android in 2011, is available for free today through the Amazon Appstore, down from the regular price of $ 2.99. The game is a faithful recreation of the 1993 original, brought up to date by Christian Whitehead, the developer responsible for recent ports of Sonic 1 and Sonic 2. Motorola are rumored to be launching their 6.3-inch phablet called the XPlay around Q3 2014. Reports indicate that Motorola have decided to drop the XPlay name, and may just be calling it the next Moto X. Specs are currently uncertain but speculation suggests the Moto XPlay will include a quad-core Snapdragon 800 CPU, 2GB RAM, and the Jelly Bean version of Android.

Amazon sets April 2nd event, likely a media streamer for your TV

Today Amazon sent out an invitation for an event on April 2nd, and by all expectations we’d be surprised if we didn’t see a TV media streamer announced. The invite — sent to TechCrunch and others — simply reads “Please join us for an update on our video business”. It also displays a couch (a living room staple, if you were not aware) and popcorn (which, you know, people eat while watching things).
