The new Android Auto has me super excited, and should have Apple extremely worried

One of the lesser announcements at Google I/O – considering it was made a few days before Google’s developer conference kicked off – was the new version of Android Auto. The new UI – which is different and, crucially, better than the previous version – has been designed so you spend less time trying to surface information, and more time focusing on the road. More importantly, it shows that Google is taking automotive seriously, and it should have  [Read More…]

Google’s approach to in-car navigation and technology, Android Auto, gets a fresh coat of paint this summer. Key among the changes is a new, default dark mode.

The phone-powered entertainment and information center that is Android Auto is approaching five years old and, as such, is due for a design refresh. Things have changed in the half-decade since launch and Google feels it has a more intuitive way of doing things.

What if your Android Auto experience wasn’t touch-based?

It’s not particularly common, but I found myself really enjoying this interface decision.

I don’t ask for many features when choosing a rental car, but Android Auto is usually top of the list. Having that bigger screen for Google Maps on long drives is so handy, and the large UI for calls and music genuinely make me a safer driver. I’ve gotten so used to it, it’s difficult to really enjoy a car without it.

This time,  [Read More…]
