$1 billion Apple-Intel 5G deal is a win-win, but Qualcomm shouldn’t worry

It takes a lot more than a single acquisition to make 5G modems that compete with the market leaders.

In a deal that should surprise exactly nobody, Apple has announced a $ 1 billion acquisition of a majority of Intel’s modem business. The deal sends the “majority” of Intel’s smartphone modem business, intellectual property and 2,200 related employees to Apple, leaving Intel to focus on the PC, enterprise and network side things.

Patent settlement with Apple nets Qualcomm a cool $4.5 billion (or more)

Apple and Qualcomm ended their two-year legal battle abruptly last month with a surprise settlement, but for how much has been the million-dollar question on everyone’s mind. Samsung is investing $115 billion to take on Qualcomm and Intel

Samsung is earmarking $ 9.5 billion a year for Samsung LSI and Samsung Foundry.

Samsung Electronics is one of the largest semiconductor players around, and the manufacturer is investing $ 115 billion (133 trillion won) over the next 12 years to take on Qualcomm and Intel. Huawei posts record $107 billion in revenue for 2018

Huawei’s U.S. troubles haven’t affected its bottom line in any meaningful way.

2018 was a turbulent year for Huawei in the U.S., but it looks like its troubles haven’t had any impact on the company’s bottom line. U.S. judge says Qualcomm owes Apple nearly $1 billion in rebate payments

Qualcomm ordered to pay nearly $ 1 billion in patent royalty rebates, but a payment may not be forthcoming.

In a preliminary ruling, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California ruled that Qualcomm owed Apple nearly $ 1 billion in rebate payments that were part of the business cooperation agreement of the two companies.
