Qualcomm increases NXP offer to $44 billion amidst Broadcom drama

Qualcomm’s increasing its original bid by 16%.

Earlier this month, Qualcomm remained resilient against Broadcom by declining the company’s second buyout offer of $ 121 million. Shortly after this, Qualcomm has increased its offer to NXP by 16% in an attempt to get Broadcom off of its back.

Google says device shipments more than doubled in 2017, passed $100 billion in annual revenue

Google made a heap of cash in 2017.

Google is huge, and as you’d expect, pulls in money from a lot of different sources. The company just shared its latest financial report that showcases numbers for its performance in Q4 and all of 2017, and there’s a mixture of growth and loss.

Google has officially completed its $1.1 billion HTC deal

All the pieces are in place to make the Pixel 3 as awesome as possible.

A few days before Google unveiled the Pixel 2 at its October hardware event, it was announced that the company would be spending $ 1.1 billion to acquire around 2,000 HTC employees to beef up its hardware division. Spotify discovered to have filed for IPO shortly after $1.6 billion lawsuit

The last year saw more than 82 billion Google Play app installs

Google Play sees a huge uptick in app installs in 2016.

At I/O 2017, Google’s VP of Engineering for Android, Dave Burke, revealed that over 82 billion apps have been installed from Google Play last year, a noticeable uptick from the 65 billion in 2015. Android itself now powers over 2 billion active devices, and is the largest operating system in the world.

Verizon spent $3.1 billion for a 5G company that AT&T was going to buy for $1.6 billion

Verizon is getting spendy on some big 5G acquisitions, because it doesn’t want to be behind again.

When Verizon decides it wants something, an extra $ 1.5 billion is no problem. According to the Wall Street Journal, America’s biggest cellular provider has agreed to spend $ 3.1 billion — $ 1.5 billion more than AT&T’s initial purchase offer — to acquire Straight Path Communications, which has one of the largest battle chests of potential 5G spectrum in the U.S.

Google is ready to spend a billion dollars to give the Pixel a curved display

Google is looking to better compete with Samsung by partnering with LG on displays.

Google is ready to spend close to $ 1 billion — around $ 880 million at today’s exchange rate — to LG Display to produce curved OLED panels for its next Pixel phones, according to Korea’s Electronic Times (via Reuters).
