Facebook Messenger Lite is heading to the U.S., UK, Canada, and Ireland

Weighing in at just 10MB, Messenger Lite offers the fore Messenger experience without all of the unnecessary bloat.

Over the past couple of years, “lite” versions of applications have become fairly popular in emerging markets with slower data connections. ASUS Zenfone 4 Max now available in Canada and the U.S.

ASUS’s latest flagship is now available to purchase in Canada and the U.S.

ASUS announced its Zenfone 4 range last month, and began releasing the devices in Asian markets. North American sales tend to lag a few months behind these initial releases — the Zenfone 3 Deluxe did not come to the States until four months after releasing in other markets — but it seems ASUS is doing things differently this year.

Bell Mobility takes a first step in replacing SMS in Canada

Bell has launched its version of the RCS standard for Galaxy S8 users.

Slowly but surely, more carriers are starting to move to RCS to hopefully begin replacing SMS over the long run. All the pieces are in place in Android phones for RCS, since Google has built the standard into the Android Messages app. But users won’t be able to actually use the new standard until their carriers update their piece of the puzzle.

Samsung’s Bixby Voice service has expanded to more than 200 countries — as long as you speak English.

The Sony Xperia XZ Premium will soon be available unlocked in Canada.

The Sony Xperia XZ Premium has already been available for a few months to American and European consumers, to mixed reviews. Now, Sony has announced that the flagship will soon be available to Canadian consumers as well.

YouTube launches Spotlight Canada channel to showcase up-and-coming talent

You can now subscribe to the best of Canadian YouTube.

YouTube has launched a channel to “shine a spotlight” on Canadian talent.

The channel, called Spotlight Canada, consolidates music, comedy, and esoterica, along with popular news and sports clips, in a single place, and will change monthly, according to a post on Google Canada’s blog.

Unlocked BlackBerry KEYone now available in Canada from Walmart

Grab a KEYone while you grab a rotisserie chicken.

When the BlackBerry KEYone was initially announced as coming in an unlocked version in Canada, BlackBerry Mobile planned to have the device available starting in June but that release eventually got pushed to ‘later this summer’ due carrier partner demand. It’s now later this summer, and Walmart has begun selling the KEYone unlocked in Canada.
