Google is tweaking ongoing casting notifications to be more informative

You’ll still see it in your notification shade, but now it tells you if someone’s casting content.

Google’s wireless, in-network casting abilities are one of the better parts of subscribing to the Android ecosystem, which is why the company’s continually tweaking it to work better. Chromebooks will soon have native casting feature

In a Chrome OS Canary channel release, a new feature is being tested. The “cast menu” will allow Chromebooks to cast their entire desktop screen to a Chromecast.

CBS app now casting current and previous shows

CBS today announced its mobile apps are now Chromecast-ready, meaning you can watch your favorite shows and (where applicable) live television through the Google dongle. As part of the new update users will find they can cast content from CBS All Access subscriptions, essentially 7,000 TV episodes worth of media.

Plex update brings refreshed UI, new purchase model, casting from camera roll

Media streaming service Plex dropped an update for its Android app today that brings a revamped UI along with the ability to cast from your camera roll to Plex clients and cast-enabled devices. Additionally, Plex has switched to offering in-app purchases to unlock features for new users in its app.

YouTube for Android updated to support casting live videos to Chromecast

Head into the Google Play Store and you’ll see YouTube sitting at version 5.5.27. The last time we covered an update for YouTube on Android was in late November when the app improved search results and channel pages. The changelog listed is old, but there are reports that there is now support for casting live videos to Chromecast.

DoggCatcher now casting in latest release

DoggCatcher, one of the first, and still among the best, podcast apps for Android, just got a little bit cooler this week. Those who download and run the latest release will find the ability to cast playback to a Chromecast-connected device. It’s not a fully-baked option that’s promised to be bug free; however, you can enable the beta feature through Settings>Miscellaneous.
