Huawei is working on an Alexa and Google Assistant competitor for China

It’s called “HiAssistant”, and it actually sounds fairly impressive.

It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant are dominating the virtual assistant market. Samsung and Apple have tried lessening their grip with Bixby and Siri, respectively, but these attempts have proven to be futile at best.

Huawei started talking about AI a lot more with the launch of its Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro, and according to a new report,  [Read More…]

Included as a core G Suite service from here on out.

If you work remotely or in a large organization, chances are your company uses Slack for business-related communication. It’s something we use here at Android Central every single day, and Google’s hoping it can steal away Slack loyalists with the launch of Hangouts Chat.

Hangouts Chat was first announced about a year ago last March, and it was first rolled out as part of an Early  [Read More…]

The hype machine is in full effect.

We’re getting down to the wire here, with Samsung’s Galaxy S9 launch event just over a week away on February 25 at MWC 2018. The hype machine is in full effect, so much so that Samsung has posted three different promo videos to its Korean YouTube channel to tease upcoming features of the phones. A desktop client, texting over Wi-Fi, making payments to businesses, and more is in the works.

In the great debate of Android vs. iOS, one thing that iPhone users often tout is that they can’t imagine switching to a Galaxy Note 8 or Pixel 2 because Android doesn’t have iMessage. While Apple will likely never add an iMessage app to the Play Store, it looks like Google may be taking matters into its own hands.

The folks  [Read More…]

Amazon might be working on a YouTube competitor called ‘Amazontube’

Say what now?

At the beginning of December, Google made a nasty move against Amazon by announcing that it’d be removing YouTube from the Echo Show (for the second time) and Fire TV as the latest move in the endless dispute between the two companies. According to the sharp eyes at TV Answer Man, Amazon filed for two trademarks that very same day for something rather interesting.

The two trademarks are titled as “Amazontube” and “Opentube,” and  [Read More…]

Google Home Mini is the Amazon Echo Dot competitor we need — now it just has to sell

Google’s problem hasn’t been that it can’t make good hardware. It’s just that it’s never been able to market it properly.

Fun fact: Google Home is my favorite of the connected-speaker-assist-things so far. I like it more than Amazon Echo. Way more than the Echo Dot. Maybe not quite as much as Echo Show, but that’s a whole ‘nother product just waiting for a purpose.

No, these are not to scale.
