Fashion brand Emporio Armani is spearheading Wear OS efforts this summer with a refreshed model of its original Connected smartwatch.

The 2018 model brings some notable upgrades to the table including a heart rate sensor, GPS and NFC technology to use for Google Pay. Even so, the Emporio Armani Connected 2018 still runs on the aged Snapdragon 2100 platform. Which, according to a report dating back from May, it’s bound to be replaced soon. Apparently, Qualcomm is working on a  [Read More…]

Amazon Cloud Cam vs. Nest Cam: Which is the better connected camera?

These two cameras each offer a turn-key video surveillance solution, but which is better for you?

Nest and Amazon are both very recognizable names when it comes to gadgetry we have in and around our homes. Both companies also offer easy to use security cameras that allow you to place them and walk away — there’s no integration into any sort of hub or controller needed. That, along with other consumer-friendly features make both the Nest Cam  [Read More…]

Smart home accessories are becoming more ubiquitous every year, and these days you can find them everywhere from specialized stores like Best Buy to more broad locations like Target and Walmart. Some home tech, like connected security cameras and smart thermostats, offer immediately obvious benefits for home security and automation. Nest Hello, left, and Ring Pro.

And just like that, I have a new favorite video doorbell.

Ring has made quite the name for itself the past couple years thanks to its stable of video doorbells, DIY security cameras — and I’d say some damned good marketing. So good, in fact, that Amazon reportedly scooped up the company for something like $ 1 billion.

But Nest Hello is here. It’s the first doorbell from the company that  [Read More…]

Reminder: Project Fi doesn’t offer simultaneous voice and data when connected to Sprint

Yes, this is still a thing you have to remember.

Project Fi offers a lot of flexibility when it comes to networks, with seamless switching between T-Mobile, Sprint, US Cellular and Wi-Fi for calling, texting and data needs. While we’ve established that the switching isn’t much to worry about and actually works quite well, the one shortcoming arrives when you go to make calls and use data at the same time when your phone is connected to the Sprint  [Read More…]
