How to enable Continued Conversation in Google Assistant for longer interactions

At I/O 2018, Google spent a lot of time talking about the Google Assistant. One of the most interesting features announced was Continued Conversations. This was designed to allow users to continue talking to the Google Assistant without using the wake-up word each time. Basically, it lets you string string multiple commands together by saying “Hey Google” only once.

The feature started rolling out to users in the US last week. If you haven’t had the chance to test it  [Read More…]

Fun, fancy lights deserve a fun, fancy remote,

AC Score 4

Broadly speaking, the appeal of smart lights has always been the ability to control them intelligently. Whether from an app on your phone or a command delivered to your digital assistant of choice, smart lights are able to offer a massive array of options. An Amazon Echo sent someone’s private conversation to one of their contacts

Time to bust out the tinfoil hats.

Amazon’s Echo gadgets have exploded in popularity over the past couple years, but some folks have been reluctant about the idea of having an always-listening speaker in their home. Thanks to a report out of Seattle, a lot more people might switch to that mindset.

According to KIRO 7 News, an Echo Dot recorded the private conversation of a husband and wife in Portland, Oregon and sent it to the  [Read More…]

Fluance Fi70 Bluetooth sound system review: A gorgeous conversation piece

It’s big, it’s beautiful, and it sounds like heaven.

I don’t like to gush in reviews; it comes off a bit tacky, and this is supposed to be an objective look at a piece of technology, but heed this warning: I’m going to gush (#phrasing). Like the lovechild of a vegan and a CrossFit enthusiast, I’m telling everyone about this thing and no one has asked. The Fluance Fi70 is an all-in-one sound system  [Read More…]

Watching two Google Homes trying to have a conversation is the best thing you’ll see today

In the future, computers will be able to talk to one another. Perhaps intelligently.

Today, though, all we have is this: two Google Home units sitting in the same room having a conversation. Twitch channel seebotschat have managed to whip together a Cleverbot API hook that keeps the units speaking in a way that yours wouldn’t be able to, and suffice it to say the outcome is, well… you just have to watch.

Watch live video from seebotschat  [Read More…]

Joon-Suh Kim and Roland Heiler on their companies’ partnership, and the first Huawei/Porsche Design product — the new Mate 9.

An unexpected arrival alongside the regular Huawei Mate 9, the curvy, ridiculously-specced Porsche Design Huawei Mate 9 is supposed to represent the peak of smartphone technology and design. With a curved screen, pitch-black anodized aluminum rear, a 4,000mAh battery, 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, this phone would turn heads even without a major luxury  [Read More…]

Google’s AI is beefing up its conversation skills with romance novels

While the saucy language of romance novels and the high-tech world of artificial intelligence don’t sound like natural partners in crime, combining the two is exactly what Google has been up to for the past few months. Specifically, Google has been feeding a steady stream of romance novels to the AI engine that powers responses in its Google app in an effort to inject some personality and more conversational mojo, reports BuzzFeed.

As noted in the report,  [Read More…]

Android Fragmentation — the seemingly impossible conversation

The meaning of ‘fragmentation’ tends to mold to whatever the argument is, for good or bad

I’m sick of it, you’re sick of it, everyone who knows much of anything about Android is sick of it. “Fragmentation” is a word that gets bandied about when it comes to Android more frequently than just about anything else. It turns out that an open source operating system installed on devices made by hundreds of manufacturers all over the  [Read More…]
