Google purchased a company that turns displays into speakers

Is this a sign of things to come on the Pixel 3?

Right ahead of the Pixel 2‘s unveiling last fall, it was announced that Google purchased a heap of smartphone engineers from HTC to spearhead smartphone projects for the coming years. According to a report from Bloomberg, Google made another purchase about a month before this for UK-based company Redux.

If you haven’t heard of Redux, you’re not alone. The company hasn’t actually released any consumer-facing  [Read More…]

Curved displays on smartphones are something that’s become more and more commonplace with each passing year, and while there’s no denying that this is an aesthetically pleasing trend, it’s not the most practical.

This was so close to being some juicy drama. Rats!

Bad news for people hoping something would go wrong with the Galaxy S8 launch and Samsung would immediately implode, those reports of Galaxy S8 displays with reddish tints to them aren’t nearly enough. Not only are these displays extremely rare outside of South Korea, but Samsung says they can be fixed with a simple re-calibration using tools already on the phone and are not an actual defect.

Samsung made over $ 45 billion in revenue last quarter, and that was without the Galaxy Note 7.

Samsung’s mobile division, despite the ignominious death of the Galaxy Note 7, performed well enough in the fourth quarter to buoy the company’s results to its best in over three years.

While much of the $ 7.92 billion USD equivalent in profit (9.22 trillion KRW) was due to success of Samsung’s less public divisions, such as V-NAND memory and OLED displays,  [Read More…]
