Amazon Prime Video finally will have Dolby Atmos content on Aug. 31

Whether you’re actually ready for it is another matter.

You soon will be able to watch Amazon Prime Video in 4K resolution and listen to it with Dolby Atmos. That may sound strange, given that the Amazon Fire TV 4K released in 2017 was Atmos-ready from the start. So, too, is the newer Fire TV Cube. But here’s the thing — Amazon didn’t actually have any content that supported Atmos.

That apparently will change starting with the new  [Read More…]

The 5.7-inch Quad HD LCD display is plenty sharp, and the industry-first 120Hz display is a joy to look at. On the audio side of things, the two front-facing stereo speakers are some of the best you can find on a phone right now.

Samsung gets the Dolby treatment.

Last November, Samsung started accepting beta testers for an early run of Android Oreo for the Galaxy S8. Samsung’s been informing users that the beta will end on Monday, January 15, and ahead of this, someone’s leaked a non-beta version of Oreo for the S8 on Reddit.

Oreo builds for the Snapdragon-powered S8 and S8+ were shared, and while it appears to very similar compared to what we’ve so far with the  [Read More…]

Netflix adds Dolby Atmos support, but you probably can’t use it yet

Netflix is adding Dolby Atmos support, but it’s not coming to Android or Chromecast anytime soon.

It’s often said that video streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video and even YouTube focus too much on video enhancements at the expense of audio. As we’ve moved from 1080p to 4K to HDR to wide color gamut, we’ve remained stubbornly adherent to audio standards that are approaching 10 or 15 years old.

Netflix wants to change that with the  [Read More…]
