Xiaomi found to be infringing on Ericsson patents, faces sales ban in India

After finding that Chinese handset manufacturer Xiaomi was infringing on select Ericsson patents, the Delhi High Court has issued an injunction against the vendor, which prohibits Xiaomi from selling, manufacturing or importing devices in the country. The ban is set to be in effect at least until February 5, 2015.

Sony Ericsson Bridge for Mac updates to version 2.0, adds OS update support

Sony Ericsson is updating its “Bridge” application for Mac users, adding the ability to apply OS updates to Xperia smartphones over USB. This functionality has been available in SE’s PC Companion tool for Windows for some time, but until now Mac users have had to wait for updates to roll out over the air.

Sony Ericsson buyout approved by the European Commission

The European Commission has given Sony the OK to take full control of Sony Ericsson, three months after Sony paid €1.05 billion for Ericsson’s share of the partnership.  Along with the entire company, the hefty sum also earned Sony an IP cross-licensing agreement, as well as ownership of five patent families. Sony Ericsson ST25i ‘Kumquat’ pic leaks, is Mini-Me to Xperia S’s Dr. Evil

We saw plenty of the Xperia S before it officially surfaced at CES, and we’ve already seen leaked photos of the MT27i “Pepper”, along with a purported leaked roadmap for other Sony phones. Today, though, XperiaBlog has the first image of at what is reportedly the Sony (Ericsson) ST25i “Kumquat”, a mid to high-end Android phone with a 3.5-inch display and a familiar industrial design.

Sony Ericsson takes a loss in Q4 2011 results

Sony Ericsson’s financials for Q4 2011 were announced today, and they look pretty rough. They lost 207 million Euros in the quarter (roughly $ 270 million), and 247 million Euros for the full year. They attribute the loss to “intense competition, price erosion and restructuring charges,” or in other words, moving everything into Sony’s offices as part of the acquisition. Sony Ericsson reminds us its sync service is shutting down, use Google’s instead

Sony Ericsson today is sending out e-mails reminding folks (or chaps, since the e-mail we received was sent to our UK operation) that it’s shutting down its Sony Ericcson Sync service on Dec. 29. The good news, of course, is that you can (and really should) sync all the same stuff with your Google account, including your contacts and calendars, along with, well, every thing else Android does extremely well.
