Samsung expects AI and flexible displays to drive smartphone growth in 2017

Samsung made over $ 45 billion in revenue last quarter, and that was without the Galaxy Note 7.

Samsung’s mobile division, despite the ignominious death of the Galaxy Note 7, performed well enough in the fourth quarter to buoy the company’s results to its best in over three years.

Samsung expects to lose $3.1 billion in profits over Note 7 recall

Samsung has already revised its earnings forecast for the current quarter, estimating that it will lost $ 2.3 billion in profits over the discontinuation of the Note 7. The company is now projecting a further $ 3 billion decline in operating profit over the next two fiscal quarters, bringing the total losses from the recall to $ 5.3 billion.

Qualcomm expects Snapdragon 820 to drive improvements in chipset business

As part of its statements in its Q1 2016 earnings report, chip maker Qualcomm says that it expects to see its chipset business improve in the second half of 2016 thanks to strong traction from the Snapdragon 820. From Qualcomm:

Sony expects to lose more money on mobile devices this year

Sony today released its earnings report for the last quarter of its fiscal year, showing an expectation of losses for its mobile division this year.

Sony expects another year of losses, despite increasing Xperia sales

As Japanese tech giant Sony restructures its businesses, there are signs of more growing pains to come. The company revealed that it expects losses of ¥50 billion ($ 489 million) in the financial year ending March 2015, whereas analysts had predicted a net profit of ¥59 billion. The previous year saw the company lose ¥128.37 billion ($ 20.62 billion), and Sony’s financial woes continue despite strengthening sales of its Xperia smartphones.
