Amex Pay launches for American Express cardholders in Canada

Amex cardmembers in Canada can try out Amex Pay on their NFC-enabled Android devices.

American Express is giving Canadian cardmembers a new way to pay, launching Amex Pay as a new feature built into the pre-existing Amex CA app for Android. Amex Pay will work for any Amex cardmember with Consumer, Small Business, or Corporate Cards issued by Amex Bank of Canada, and an NFC-enabled Android phone with the Amex app installed.

MediaTek Pump Express 3.0 will charge a phone to 70% of its battery life in 20 minutes

Mobile chip company MediaTek has announced its Pump Express 3.0 technology, which it claims will charge a phone to 70% of its battery life in 20 minutes.

MediaTek says:

Pump Express 3.0 is the world’s first solution to enable direct charge through Type-C USB power delivery. Direct charging bypasses charging circuitry inside the phone and prevents the device from overheating while also routing electrical current from the adaptor directly to the battery.

The Chick-fil-A fast food franchise has launched its own mobile keyboard, allowing people to use over 20 emojis, stickers and GIFs on a variety of messaging apps.

Tech companies express ‘deep concerns’ about encryption bill in open letter to Senators

Four big tech coalitions have teamed up to write an open letter to two senators in opposition to a bill that would require smartphone manufacturers to decrypt data for law enforcement on demand. Apple, Google, and Facebook are amongst the companies that these coalitions represent, and the letter expresses their “deep concerns” surrounding the proposed bill.

Google rebrands Shopping Express, introduces same-day deliveries to more US cities

Google has rebranded its Shopping Express service, which enables consumers to take advantage of same day delivery from the company. It’s now simply titled Google Express, taking on-board feedback from the community.
