Xiaomi IPO falls far short of $100 billion goal but it’s still worth a buttload of money

On Monday, Xiaomi joined the Hong Kong Hang Seng index with a $ 54 billion debut. This is far less than the estimated $ 100 billion number that was floated months ago, with it closing on Monday at HK$ 17 per share. Tuesday saw it rise up to HK$ 19 per share but still puts it at far less than the original Xiaomi IPO estimate.

Chinese group’s $1.2 billion takeover of Opera falls through

A Chinese consortium of internet companies has failed to acquire Opera over lack of regulatory approval, according to Reuters. The Norwegian software maker is now selling off its browser business for $ 600 million.

Samsung says it wants no part of RIM; BlackBerry maker’s stock falls in after-hours trading

A report from BGR today, citing anonymous sources, stating that RIM was hoping for a $ 10 billion to $ 15 billion purchase by Samsung apparently has fallen flat, but not before the Waterloo company’s stocks climbed 8 percent on the day.

Samsung has not “considered acquiring the firm and are not interested,” a company spokesman told Reuters.

Motorola Xoom price falls to £299 in the UK

First it was £399, then £329, and now the UK price of the Motorola Xoom has dropped below £300 for the first time. British retailer Play.com is now offering the 32GB, Wifi-only Xoom for £299.99 (~$ 475), a full £100 less than the official RRP just a couple of months ago.

HTC Flyer falls to £329.99 at Best Buy UK

We came away with a positive impression of HTC’s 7-inch Flyer tablet when it launched back in late May, however, one thing we weren’t fans of was the Flyer’s UK pricing. At £480 for Wifi-only and £600 for Wifi and 3G, it was significantly more expensive than the dual-core, Honeycomb-powered competition, and that made us sad.
