Would you like a flat screen on the Galaxy Note 9?

A matter of form vs. function.

Samsung’s been dabbling with curved displays for quite a few years now, but since the launch of the Galaxy S8 series last year, the company’s gone all in on these curves for its flagship phones. The Note 8 and S9 series that followed the S8 also came equipped with curved sides, and with the Note 9 on the horizon, people are debating whether or not this is a trend that should stick around.

Do you prefer curved or flat smartphone displays?

Looks versus function.

If you look at devices like the Galaxy S8, LG V30, and Google Pixel 2 XL, you’ll see that they have one thing in common – they’ve all got curved displays.

Curved displays on smartphones are something that’s become more and more commonplace with each passing year, and while there’s no denying that this is an aesthetically pleasing trend, it’s not the most practical.

Daily brief: Samsung faces flat earnings, Verizon spends money on Pixels

It’s hard to go a full day without some big news regarding Samsung.

There’s a combination of news hits relating to the Galaxy Note 7, and none of it is good. Samsung Electronics released its earnings guidance (what it expects its numbers to look like) for Q3 2016, and both sales and operating profit are about flat from Q2 — that doesn’t bode well for its Q4, which is traditionally big thanks to the holiday buying  [Read More…]

When the Galaxy Note 7 was announced and Samsung talked about how wonderful the curved display was, Note fans were riled up about the prospect that there wasn’t a “flat” version announced alongside it. And to be fair to them, we’ve had simultaneous curved and flat variations of Samsung flagships for the past four iterations — it became an expectation.

To set the stage here, I’m hardly a  [Read More…]
