Huawei will stop focusing on the U.S. following security setbacks

After months of pushback, Huawei’s reached its breaking point.

After months of setbacks over security concerns from the U.S. government, Huawei has finally reached its breaking point. During a meeting in its home of Shenzhen, China, Huawei agreed that it’ll be shifting its focus and resources to other markets outside of the States.

During the meeting, rotating CEO Eric Xu said –

Xiaomi focusing on ‘recurring revenue streams,’ isn’t worried about shrinking phone sales

Xiaomi is looking to the smart home segment for profits.

Xiaomi isn’t worried about shrinking sales in China affecting the company’s long-term profit growth. That’s according to global VP Hugo Barra, who revealed in an interview with Reuters that the focus is instead on creating “recurring revenue streams:”

Basically we’re giving [handsets] to you without making any money… we care about the recurring revenue streams over many years.

Google shutting down Orkut in September, focusing on Google+, YouTube, and Blogger

Google is shutting down Orkut, its original social network. Google says that this is due to to the fact that Orkuthas been greatly outpaced by YouTube, Blogger, and Google+ across the world, where Orkut only ever caught on in a few countries.
