HTC’s new U12 Life mid-ranger looks pretty in a two-tone design

HTC is among the first Android phone makers to make an announcement at IFA this year. The Taiwanese brand just unveiled a new member of its flagship U12 family. It’s called the HTC U12 Life and it’s a middle-range device that positions itself below the top-of-the-line U12+, which launched a few months ago.

Despite not being a fully-fledged flagship, the HTC U12 Life does pack some great specs and features a premium design. The new handset uses a 6-inch FHD+  [Read More…]

HTC’s next smartphone in the U12 series might not be made by HTC itself

It’s no secret that HTC’s smartphone business has been struggling for years. The company’s latest flagship, the U12+ hasn’t done much to turn things around and in July, the phone maker was forced to lay off 1,500 workers in its manufacturing unit in Taiwan.

You’ve probably heard that HTC is preparing to launch a new budget phone called the U12 Life (Imagine Life). Well, as a result of these job cuts, it seems that HTC won’t be actually making this  [Read More…]

Deal: HTC’s knocking up to 20% off the U11 and U11+ in the UK

A 64GB U11 can be yours for as little as £323.19.

If you’re an HTC fan but aren’t quite sold on the new U12+, now might be the time to pick up last year’s U11 or U11+.

Right now in the United Kingdom, HTC’s offering 10% off the U11 and U11+ for all customers — bringing prices down to £359.10 and £539.10, respectively.

That’s not a terrible deal, but if you sign up for the free HTC  [Read More…]

Early access for HTC’s Exodus blockchain phone opens in Q3 2018

HTC is partnering with Cryptokitties, Animoca, and Bitmark to help create Exodus.

This past May, HTC confirmed it was working on a new phone by the name of “Exodus.” Rather than release another typical Android handset, Exodus is a smartphone that’s powered by blockchain. Today, July 11, HTC announced it’s opening up early access for Exodus during Q3 this year.

Per an HTC press release:

HTC’s already having shipping problems with the U12+ [Update]

Amazon orders might not go out until August 3.

Updated 12:38 PM ET: Looks like the U12+ is doing okay, after all. In a statement sent to Android Central, HTC said: “We’re aware a small number of U12+ orders were affected by a system error that made it seem like the orders were canceled. This is not the case, and we’re in the process of contacting these customers to ensure they know their order will be on its  [Read More…]

HTC’s latest event teaser shows parts of an iPhone 6

HTC is teasing their latest event with an image of smartphone parts surrounding a date. Don’t get us wrong, it’s a nice image. But you’d think HTC would use its own phone internals to tease an upcoming phone. Preferably U12+ internals, but any recent HTC phone internals would do.

But that’s not how HTC do. This teaser contains a collection of iPhone 6 internals. Just check out the above image next to iFixit’s teardown of the iPhone 6.

Ambiguity aside, this is still really exciting.

Per HTC’s official blog post –

HTC’s Vive Focus VR headset is super cool, but you can’t have one

It was supposed to be the first Daydream Standalone headset, but HTC is doing something potentially more interesting now.

Back at Google I/O last year, Daydream Standalone was teased as the next big thing in VR from Google. A big part of that plan was a special headset from HTC that didn’t require a phone to work, but instead, we’ll soon be using the Lenovo Mirage Solo as the first Daydream Standalone headset. What happened to the  [Read More…]

HTC’s smartphone president has resigned following ten quarters of losses

Where does HTC go from here?

HTC’s been struggling to find a strong foothold in the smartphone space for quite some time now, and matters aren’t going to be helped in this regard following the announcement that HTC’s President of Smartphone and Connected Devices Business, Chialin Chang, has resigned.

The news broke in the early morning of February 14, with HTC citing Chang’s resignation being due to his own “personal career plan.” Chang is leaving HTC effective  [Read More…]

HTC’s first phone with 18:9 aspect ratio, bezel-less display coming in November

What’s the biggest trend in smartphone design this year? That’s an easy one – bezel-less displays, of course. Just look around and you’ll see what we mean. Companies like Samsung, LG, Xiaomi or Essential have turned the bezel-less display into a standard for flagship phones. But not all Android OEMs have joined the party – […]
