Huawei will move its research center from the U.S. to Canada

FCC vote bans buying telecom equipment from Huawei with government funds

The ban also includes purchasing from ZTE.

What you need to know The FCC decided in a unanimous vote to ban the use of the Universal Service Funds to purchase equipment from Huawei and ZTE. The Universal Service Fund consists of $ 8.5 billion which is used to help provide service to rural areas, libraries, and schools. Congress is considering legislation which would provide funds to replace the existing equipment from Huawei and ZTE.

A bipartisan block of 15 senators is opposing new trade licenses for Huawei

The licenses relate to ‘non-essential’ goods.

What you need to know The Commerce Department started issuing its responses to over 290 requests from U.S. firms for licenses to trade with Huawei this Wednesday. A day later, a group of senators has written to President Trump to stop the issuance of these licenses. The group includes Chuck Schumer, Tom Cotton, Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker, and Rick Scott, among others.

The U.S. government is delaying its Huawei ban for another three months

The ban will now come into effect on February 16, 2020.

What you need to know It has been nearly six months now since Huawei was added to the U.S. Entity List. The ban effectively forbids the company from having any dealings with U.S. companies. Following two previous reprieves, the company is being granted another 90-day stay on the ban.

U.S. may delay Huawei trade ban for another six months

An extension will make it possible for U.S. companies to do “some transactions” with Huawei.

What you need to know As per a new report, the Commerce Department may soon grant a six-month reprieve that will allow U.S. firms to do business with Huawei. The current temporary general license, which was granted in August, is set to expire on November 18. U.S. firms are expected to receive licenses to trade with Huawei “very shortly.”
