Xiaomi’s Pocophone F1 to take on OnePlus in India

The Pocophone F1 is the first phone from Xiaomi’s new sub-brand meant to take on OnePlus. It seems rather commonplace in China for big mobile brands to have a sub-brand. Even OnePlus is a sub-brand of OPPO, while Huawei and ZTE have sub-brands as well.

Latest IDC numbers show Xiaomi carving out a healthy lead in India

With a market share of 29.7%, Xiaomi is extending its lead over Samsung.

The latest IDC numbers for the second quarter of 2018 show Xiaomi building on its lead in the country. Xiaomi overtook Samsung at the end of last year to become India’s largest smartphone manufacturer, and IDC’s Q2 2018 figures show the company dominating in the online space. Samsung is rolling out a series of attractive offers for those buying the Galaxy Note 9.

Samsung is set to launch the Galaxy Note 9 in India in the coming weeks, and the South Korean manufacturer has kicked off pre-bookings for the device in the country. Google ‘inadvertently’ added a government helpline number to contact lists of all Android phones in India

Google apologizes for coding a government agency’s number into all Android phones in India.

Over the course of this week, several Android users in India took to Twitter over the mysterious appearance of a government helpline number on their devices. The number in question is the toll-free helpline (1-800-300-1947) for the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the government agency that oversees the Aadhaar biometric identity program.

BlackBerry is back at it this time with their partner Optiemus to launch the Evolve and Evolve X in India. These two midrange phones include 6-inch 18:9 HD+ displays and massive 4000mAh batteries. However, they are lacking the physical keyboard you’d find on the Key 2.

OnePlus just surpassed Samsung’s flagship phone sales in India for the first time

Counterpoint Research shows Samsung’s drop-off was steep and poorly timed.

Here’s something we didn’t see coming: OnePlus just sold more high-end phones than Samsung in India. According to Counterpoint Research, OnePlus was the top-selling manufacturer in the flagship segment (₹30,000+, or $ 435+) in India for Q2 2018, hitting an all-time high of 40% market share.
