The good and bad of Samsung’s One UI interface for Android Pie

Samsung’s One UI looks like a big step forward (for the most part).

Samsung held its 2018 developer conference on November 7 in San Franciso, and while the highlight of the opening keynote was the company’s new foldable AMOLED display, something else that was a big focus was Samsung’s new Android interface called “One UI.”

One UI will initially be rolled out as a beta for users later this month, and in January 2019, will officially make  [Read More…]

Samsung’s new Android interface is called ‘One UI’

One UI will be available for the Galaxy S9 and Note 9 in January.

At the 2018 Samsung Developer Conference, one of the big announcements was a big refresh for Samsung’s custom Android interface. The Samsung Experience is gone, and in its place, we have One UI.

One of the biggest goals with One UI is to help users “focus on the task at hand.” To achieve this, One UI removes a lot of clutter from the  [Read More…]

Google debuts all-new Wear OS interface with Google Assistant feed

An all-new way to get to the core features of your smartwatch.

Wear OS hasn’t been the most exciting platform the last few years, even back to when it was still called Android Wear. The interface has always focused on notifications and simplicity, but kind of lost its way when Google decided to make its watches feel more standalone and focus on apps. Now, Google’s restoring some of the simplicity with an all-new interface for Wear OS.

Adobe Lightroom mobile goes ‘Android native’ with slightly refreshed interface

Just because an update looks small doesn’t mean it isn’t important.

Adobe has updated its Lightroom Mobile app for Android with an all-new “Android native” interface, though the changes aren’t as big as you’d think with such a proclamation. The main change to the experience is better labeling of buttons and simpler sliders that make sense on a (relatively) small screen that’s used exclusively with touch.

Lightroom Mobile continues to  [Read More…]

After over a year, we have a nice big YouTube update.

YouTube‘s new Android TV interface is now rolling out, hopefully solving some of the issues people have reported that have led to a pretty horrid rating for the app in the Play Store. The new interface makes it a bit easier to browse on a big screen with some larger interface elements and new tabs running across the main home screen.  [Read More…]

YouTube changes its app interface yet again, moving to bottom tab navigation

A subtle tweak that should simplify the experience for many users.

YouTube is once again tweaking its Android app interface, aiming to hopefully clean things up and make the most-used YouTube functions easier to quickly reach. The crux of the new interface is the move to a bottom navigation bar that lets you quickly tap one of five tabs: home, trending, subscriptions, shared and library. The trending and subscription tabs use a  [Read More…]

YouTube launching new Material Design interface, including a dark theme

It’s time to bring one of Google’s most successful properties to modern design standards.

YouTube is refreshing its interface across the web and smartphones, undertaking a complete Material Design refresh to make the experience cleaner and easier to focus on videos. The main layout of the website is remaining intact, but the entire look is simpler, flatter and cleaner than ever before — something that should come as no surprise if you’ve used Google’s other websites or Android apps  [Read More…]

Sliding under the radar, at first, was the Pixel C, which actually seems to have received the largest changes.
