Amazon Fire TV now has 34 million active users, increasing its lead on Roku

Roku reported 29.1 million users just last week.

Amazon Fire TV now has 34 million monthly active users, up from the 30 million announced in January and widening the gap between it and Roku’s recently reported user numbers. The detail was given by Jen Prenner, Amazon’s Fire TV general manager and global head of Marketing, growth and engagement, during a panel at The Pay TV Show in Denver, Colorado.

Latest IDC numbers show Xiaomi carving out a healthy lead in India

With a market share of 29.7%, Xiaomi is extending its lead over Samsung.

The latest IDC numbers for the second quarter of 2018 show Xiaomi building on its lead in the country. Xiaomi overtook Samsung at the end of last year to become India’s largest smartphone manufacturer, and IDC’s Q2 2018 figures show the company dominating in the online space. Google hires former Apple chip architect to lead design on custom processors

The pieces are falling into place for Google to produce its own silicon for future Pixel devices.

Google has made a big move towards developing its own system-on-a-chip (SoC) for its own Pixel devices with the hiring of Manu Gulati, who has been helping develop chips for Apple since 2009. Dropbox snags former Googler to lead design team

Nicholas Jitkoff joins Dropbox team as VP of Design.

Dropbox has expanding its pool of design talent, announcing Nicholas Jitkoff has joined the company as the new VP of Design. Jitkoff previously led Google’s Material Design team, where he worked on top-level projects across Google’s product groups to create “a coherent design language for Google’s suite of products”. Also on Jitkoff’s resume is his notable work developing the first versions of Quicksilver, a popular productivity application for macOS.
