MediaTek Helio P70 chipset promises fluid gaming, fast LTE, and AI smarts

The P70 will start arriving in smartphones by this November.

Although it may not be as popular as Qualcomm here in the States, MediaTek is still one of the biggest names when it comes to mobile processors. The company just announced its latest chipset for smartphones, and it’s the MediaTek Helio P70.

The Helio P70 is the successor to the P60 from earlier this year and offers upgrades to both the CPU and GPU.

MediaTek mobile processors: What’s the difference between ’em?

If you’ve got an Android smartphone – and let’s be honest, since you’re reading this you probably do – you’ve heard of Qualcomm and its Snapdragon processors.

Snapdragon is typically known as the processor of choice for Android smartphones, whether its in a high-end Samsung flagship or an entry-level, T-Mobile-branded ZTE device.

Alas, Qualcomm isn’t the only name in the processor game; the China-based MediaTek is its biggest competitor, especially in countries that aren’t the U.S.

India’s Reliance Jio is teaming up with MediaTek over an Android Go phone

India’s largest data carrier is set to launch an Android Go phone.

India’s feature phone market is still thriving, as evidenced by the launch of the $ 25 JioPhone late last year. The phone comes with 4G connectivity and access to Jio’s digital content library, and also has Google Assistant baked in, a first for a feature phone.
