In what feels like a never-ending technology patent spat, Apple has just been awarded a hefty amount of damages from Samsung related to design patent infringement. HMD Global, the company behind Nokia phones, just raised $100 million

Around 70 million Nokia handsets were sold in 2017.

Last year, a company by the name of HMD Global revived the Nokia brand and started releasing a heap of Android and feature phones under the iconic name. 2017 proved to be rather successful for HMD, and to ensure things stay that way, the company recently raised an additional $ 100 million in funding.

Around 200 million people had their real-time location exposed by LocationSmart

A bug allowed you to track someone’s location without obtaining their consent.

Earlier this week, it was reported that a company called LocationSmart partners with U.S. carriers to sell people’s real-time location to all sorts of third parties. This news came as a rather unpleasant surprise on its own, but it’s now been discovered that a bug on LocationSmart’s website exposed the real-time location for around 200 million individuals.

T-Mobile fined $40 million because it played fake ringtones and lies to rural users about call quality

Unlike the Uncarrier.

The FCC has fined T-Mobile $ 40 million for faking connections to rural customers in Wisconsin, according to a release. It also inserted fake ring tones into those calls to make it seem like they were connecting and failing, even though no one was on the other end of the call to pick up.

Up to 87 million Facebook users’ data was shared with Cambridge Analytica

The social network also outlined 9 ways it’ll keep data more secure in the future.

It’s no secret that Facebook really let “you know what” hit the fan over the last couple weeks. Under Armour says data breach compromised 150 million MyFitnessPal accounts

Leaked data includes usernames, email addresses and hashed passwords.

Athletic apparel brand Under Armour announced that a data breach exposed details of over 150 million MyFitnessPal users. The leaked data includes usernames, email addresses, and hashed passwords, but government-issued identifiers like social security numbers and driving licenses were not compromised as the app doesn’t collect that information. Similarly, credit card numbers were not leaked.
