Amazon Fire TV now has 34 million active users, increasing its lead on Roku

Roku reported 29.1 million users just last week.

Amazon Fire TV now has 34 million monthly active users, up from the 30 million announced in January and widening the gap between it and Roku’s recently reported user numbers. The detail was given by Jen Prenner, Amazon’s Fire TV general manager and global head of Marketing, growth and engagement, during a panel at The Pay TV Show in Denver, Colorado.

Facebook exposed up to 600 million user passwords to its employees

How does this keep happening?

Per a report from Krebs on Security on March 21, Facebook has — yet again — found a way to mishandle its users’ data. This time around, it appears that Facebook incorrectly stored user passwords and made them exposed to thousands of employees.

YouTube TV reportedly surpasses 1 million subscribers

Bloomberg’s anonymous sources point to YouTube TV with more than 1 million subscribers.

A report today from Bloomberg could possibly point to a new pecking order for the major streaming TV services.

Google’s been fined €50 million for violating GDPR rules

This is the largest GDPR fine yet.

On January 21, 2019, France’s National Data Protection Commission (CNIL) announced that Google is being fined a total of €50 million for failing to comply with certain rules set in place by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that officially went into effect in May 2018.

Google buys $40 million in smartwatch tech from Fossil

A huge move for the future of Wear OS.

Fossil Group, one of the most successful Wear OS smartwatch makers, has agreed to sell $ 40 million in smartwatch technology to Google. The deal includes intellectual property Fossil has developed, but will also include sending “a portion” of Fossil Group’s research and development team over to Google. ARCore now supports 250 million devices as new version rolls out

Google’s augmented reality platform hits a new milestone.

ARCore made its debut earlier this year, and Google is announcing that the augmented reality platform supports 250 million devices. The full list of ARCore devices include the Pixels, most of Samsung’s portfolio, and recent phones from the likes of LG, Huawei, Nokia, Motorola, OnePlus, and Xiaomi.

$13.8 million worth of Samsung display tech was illegally sold in China

11 people are being charged for the act.

Samsung’s one of the leading forces in the industry when it comes to mobile displays, and earlier this year, it took another big leap forward by unveiling its foldable AMOLED tech for the very first time. On November 29, Bloomberg reported that 11 individuals in China are now being charged for illegally selling $ 13.8 million worth of it.
