Qualcomm’s 5G modem will debut on ‘at least’ two flagships in 2019

Qualcomm’s latest 5G modem is 25% smaller and is ready to make its way into phones next year.

Qualcomm debuted its QTM052 mmWave antenna module earlier this year, and at the 4G/5G summit in Hong Kong, the chip vendor launched a new version that’s 25% smaller. The new design allows device manufacturers to implement it into their products without sacrificing the aesthetic, and Qualcomm has also announced that it secured new partners for its 5G modem.

Verizon uses Qualcomm’s new X20 modem to go beyond 1Gbps wireless speeds

Qualcomm, Ericsson and Verizon have successfully reached 1.07 gbps download speeds on LTE.

While 5G is a ways away, there’s still some growing room for 4G LTE. Qualcomm has been field testing its X20 LTE modem, which will allow for a theoretical limit of 1.2Gbps download speeds on cellular connections. Now, Verizon, Ericsson and Qualcomm have announced they were able to achieve a stable 1.07Gbps in lab conditions.

Qualcomm announces first gigabit LTE device and network, 5G modem

The first gigabit LTE network will go live in Australia.

Qualcomm has announced that it is partnering with Netgear, Ericsson, and Australian carrier Telstra in delivering the world’s first gigabit LTE device and network. Telstra has worked with Ericsson in developing the gigabit-ready network, which will go live before the end of the year.

Qualcomm announces super-fast gigabit LTE modem and new Snapdragon chips

Qualcomm has announced a new super-fast gigabit LTE modem, as well as three new Snapdragon processors. The Snapdragon 625, 435 and 425 pack a punch with various technologies included to offer low- to mid-tier performance in smartphones later this year. Snapdragon 820 to come with new X12 LTE modem – CAT 12 downloads, CAT 13 uploads, and 4X4 MIMO

Qualcomm has announced a few details about the coming Snapdragon 820, specifically about the modem and connectivity feature-set.

The 820, expected to hit devices in 2016, will feature the all-new X12 LTE modem, which brings CAT 12 down and CAT 13 up speeds (600 and 150 Mbps, respectively) and up to 4 x 4 MIMO downlinks while on an LTE carrier. In plain English, this means fast.
