Motorola may be stepping into the modular phone game with the Moto X this year

According to a new report, Motorola’s rumored upcoming Moto X may follow in the footsteps of the LG G5 and go modular. Sources are saying there are six modules, called Amps, that can bring anything from stereo speakers to a bigger battery and even a pico projector. This report follows up on a recent leak which showed off various renders of what is said to be this year’s Moto X.

Former Motorola leader Rick Osterloh heads back to Google to lead hardware projects

Former Motorola president Rick Osterloh has returned to Google. Osterloh will be in charge of Google’s hardware teams, including Nexus, Chromecast and Google Glass.

Re/code reports:

A Google rep confirmed that Osterloh has joined the company as its newest Senior Vice President, running the new hardware product line and reporting to CEO Sundar Pichai.

Motorola Affinity spotted in import listing, may turn out to be the Moto E 2016

Indian import export website Zauba shows that Motorola has imported a phone into the country with the codename Affinity. The screen size is listed as 5 inches, and the retail value at ₹5,164 ($ 78) suggests this may well be the Moto E 2016.

With the Moto G4 rumored to sport a 5.5-inch display, it is possible Motorola is considering a bump in the screen size for its entry-level offering from 4.5 inches to 5 inches.  [Read More…]

Motorola Droid Ultra, Maxx, and Mini will not receive Lollipop upgrades

Motorola has announced that it will not be bringing Lollipop to the Droid Ultra, Maxx, and Mini as they originally intended. This will leave the three phones, originally introduced in July 2013 at Android 4.4 KitKat. The announcement was made on Motorola’s forums, where the company also apologized for the lack of an upgrade.

Motorola launches VerveLife, a new line of wearable accessories

Motorola has announced a new line of wearable products under the VerveLife branding.
