Barnes & Noble recalls Nook 7 tablet chargers over electrical shock concern

You now have another reason not to buy this tablet.

There are plenty of issues with the Barnes & Noble Nook 7 tablet (not the least of which being its questionable software), but B&N is also now issuing a recall of the Nook 7’s charger. Together with the U.S. CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission), Barnes & Noble identified that some chargers were breaking under pressure and exposing internal components, which posed an electrical shock risk.

The update may remove the part where your data goes back to China, but everything else is bad and unchanged.

If all you’re looking for is an e-reader, then maybe $ 50 isn’t that bad. Maybe. Possibly.

The Nook 7 from Barnes & Noble is $ 50. That may be the best thing I have to say about it. It’s not particularly fast. (Or fast at all.) The display isn’t anything to write home about. The software is basically stock Android with BN apps added in.

Barnes and Noble launches new Nook app with free audiobook offer

Bookseller Barnes and Noble is trying to revamp its Nook brand with a new app that will allow users to purchase and download selections from a large library of audiobooks. The app now available in the Google Play Store with an offer of two free audiobooks from a select list of titles.

Following years of rumors and speculation, Barnes & Noble has confirmed that it will be splitting its Nook hardware line and its brick and mortar retail business into two different companies. The move will be finalized by the end of the financial year.
