This limited edition PyeongChang Winter Olympic Galaxy Note 8 is gorgeous, and you can’t have one

Samsung has done it again.

To celebrate the 2018 Winter Olympics coming to PyeongChang, in its home country of South Korea, Samsung has created a wonderful limited edition Galaxy Note 8. And unfortunately, you will never have a chance to own one … that is, unless you are competing in or involved with managing the games this year.

Samsung has made 4,000 of these, officially dubbed the “PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Games Limited Edition,” for athletes and Olympic staff to  [Read More…]

Should you buy the Note 8 or wait for Note 9?

There’s always something better right around the corner.

Without a doubt, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 was one of the best large phones to come out in 2017. Samsung absolutely redeemed itself last year following the Note 7 debacle, and with a gorgeous display, excellent S Pen features, and stunning design, the Note 8 is still a joy to use.

However, because of the industry we’re in, there really is always something better coming around the bend.  [Read More…]

Bug causes Galaxy S8 and Note 8 screen to turn on randomly while charging

This doesn’t seem to be widespread, but it’s definitely annoying.

When you charge your phone, you typically just plug it in or place it on a wireless charging pad and forget about it. It’s a process that you don’t really think about on a daily basis, but when something goes wrong with it, it can prove to be awfully irritating.

For some users of the Galaxy S8/S8+ and Note 8, the display on their phones is randomly  [Read More…]

Should I buy a Galaxy Note 8 or wait for the Galaxy S9+?

It’s the discussion we have every single year.

With Samsung’s continued strategy of launching both a Galaxy S flagship and a top-end Galaxy Note each year, it creates an odd middle ground for some people where they struggle with deciding to buy the latest Galaxy or wait for the new one just six months away. Right now we’re talking about the Galaxy Note 8, which has been out for over three months now, and the Galaxy S9+, expected to  [Read More…]

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 review, 3 months later: A polarizing powerhouse

You can’t ignore the power of this company.

Samsung retains a massive influence in the smartphone world, holding an outsized mind share even relative to its legitimately massive market share. The Galaxy Note 8 is a perfect example of this — it doesn’t sell nearly as well as the Galaxy S line, yet it’s held up as the pinnacle of what Samsung is capable of on account of its bigger size, extra features and super-high price.

Galaxy Note 8’s Secure Wi-Fi VPN now powered by McAfee

McAfee’s now in charge of Secure Wi-Fi’s backend.

Earlier this month, Samsung released a new app for the Galaxy Note 8 called “Secure Wi-Fi” that aimed to protect users when on public Wi-Fi networks from potential threats and attackers. This came as a result of the KRACK WPA2 Wi-Fi vulnerability that was discovered in October, and Samsung’s now upgrading its Secure Wi-Fi service thanks to a new collaboration with McAfee.

With this collaboration, McAfee will now be  [Read More…]

The Mirabook is a laptop powered by your Samsung Galaxy S8, Note 8 or Huawei Mate 10

Remember the DeX dock which allows Samsung Galaxy S8 users to turn their Android phone into a desktop computer? But in order to do that, you’ll need a monitor and some peripherals including a mouse and keyboard. Which basically defeats the idea of portability associated with a smartphone. Well, the company Miraxess has come with […]

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 review: A second opinion

In a post-Galaxy S8 world, the Note 8 is safe, predictable and arguably overpriced. But it’s still one of the very best Android phones you can buy right now.

Until recently, the last Galaxy Note I could actually buy in the UK was a model released almost three years ago. 2015’s Note 5 never reached European shores, and the Note 7 was canned just before the official Euro release could begin. It’s been a rough couple of  [Read More…]

Reviews flood the Internet with varying opinions, drop/durability tests are conducted, people dig through to find every last new feature, and the cameras are tested out to their fullest potential. DxOMark has been testing smartphone camera quality for years, and it just gave the Samsung Galaxy  [Read More…]
