Motiv Ring Review: Nothing up my sleeves

The perfect fitness tracker for people who don’t want to look like they’re wearing a fitness tracker.

After 20 minutes of silence, the woman sitting across from me at this picnic table I was writing at felt compelled to strike up a conversation. “Do you mind if I ask what your wedding ring is made of? I’ve never seen anything else quite like it,” she asked of the complete stranger before her. It caught me off guard,  [Read More…]

If you hated the Pixel 2 XL, nothing about the 3 XL will change your mind

This is a new Pixel, not an entirely new kind of device.

Leaks of upcoming smartphones are fun for the most part, because they give us a glimpse at what’s to come in a new device and lets us have informed speculation about the rest. I don’t quite feel the same about this latest Google Pixel 3 XL leak, which is the whole picture. The whole phone, retail box and all, has leaked spectacularly. It takes away  [Read More…]

First 24 hours with the Samsung Galaxy Note 9: nothing but a pleasure

A little over 24 hours ago I received the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and began digging into one of the biggest phones of the year. This won’t be a full review, there is no way to do a comprehensive review on a phone this featured packed in only 24 hours. However, after a day I do have some thoughts, but you’ll have to wait for the full review to find out more.

6 months after Pixel 2 launch, Google has nothing to say of its success — but hardware focus is bigger than ever

Other parts of the hardware and operating system business take the spotlight instead.

Alphabet just released its Q1 2018 earnings, and I followed along with the earnings call afterward to pick up further context on the numbers from Google CEO Sundar Pichai. The most striking thing from the call, at least as it pertains to us here in the Android world, is that the word “Pixel” was used only once — mentioned as an aside when talking  [Read More…]

From the Editor’s Desk: Nothing on your phone is worth looking at while you drive

Smartphone addiction is a real thing. And it has serious consequences when it’s combined with driving.

In the last couple weeks, both my girlfriend and I have come within inches of being hit by cars while walking, in crosswalks, in downtown Seattle. Unfortunately this isn’t the only time that’s happened to us, nor is it exclusive to us or this city. Every single day in every city I visit, I see drivers blow through lights, stop in crosswalks and  [Read More…]

LG V30 renders based on CAD designs leave nothing to the imagination

LG is gearing up to unveil its second flagship for the year, the V30 in Berlin a day before the IFA 2017 trade show officially opens its gates. The phone popped up in the rumor mill before, but this week we’re getting a closer look at it thanks to @OnLeaks and MySmartPrice who posted a […]

Most Popular Ringtones Free offers a small collection of average ringtones, nothing more (Review)

Overview: I don’t know about you, but I often get bored with the sounds my phone makes. So I try to change my ringtone or my sound alarm as often as I can. That’s why I’ve tried numerous ringtone apps throughout the years. Luckily, there’s a large variety of them to choose from. Which brings […]

There’s nothing fab about a phablet TV remote

What are the odds of buying a Vizio SmartCast TV but not owning a smartphone? I ask, because the last thing I need is a publicly available tablet in my living room.

Once upon a time the idea of a television relying on Google’s Chromecast for content and shipping with a 6-inch Android remote might have excited me. Because for the most part television manufacturers have tried too hard to be UX designers an ended up making TVs  [Read More…]

OnePlus 5: A reminder that retailer listings mean nothing, and About screens can be faked

Never Settle for dubious online rumors.

So we’re getting to the time of year when folks are expecting a new OnePlus smartphone. The number four being considered bad luck in some Asian cultures, the name everyone seems to have settled on is OnePlus 5, and boy is the rumor mill already churning. In the past week a post by OnePlus CEO Pete Lau on social network Weibo, not mentioning the OnePlus 5, and revealing no new information  [Read More…]
