Every OnePlus 6 owner can install Android 9 Pie right now

The latest software has some bugs, but is available for anyone to download.

After a couple weeks running in a closed beta, OnePlus has opened up its Android 9 Pie update for the OnePlus 6 to any willing participant. The new update is the first public taste of the actual OxygenOS-customized version of Android 9 Pie, as early builds during the Developer Preview stage didn’t have a full suite OnePlus tweaks and additions.

An inside look at how the OnePlus 6 is made

You’ve seen the teardown, now see the OnePlus 6 being put together.

Over the last four years, OnePlus built up a name for itself as a company that caters to power users. OnePlus now sells in most major global markets, but it’s India where the company has seen the most success to date. The Chinese company managed to overtake Samsung as the premium segment in the country earlier this year, a worthy accomplishment from a brand that’s  [Read More…]

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 vs. OnePlus 6: MrMobile’s $500 dilemma

Here’s something I heard a lot from viewers when I said that Samsung’s Galaxy Note 9 was actually worth the thousand bucks it costs: “no, dude.” See, it turns out a lot of folks don’t think any smartphone is worth a four-figure price point, no matter how fully-featured it is. It’s not just viewer feedback, either; I listen to a lot of tech podcasts, and nearly every time the Galaxy Note 9 was brought up in conversation  [Read More…]

OnePlus’ next-flagship, the 6T will launch in a few months and it’s going to be a special device, at least from one point a view.

The report claims this is a sure affair, although the process of technical approval might cause some delay. Either way, the unlocked global version of the 6T will also  [Read More…]

Xiaomi’s Pocophone F1 to take on OnePlus in India

The Pocophone F1 is the first phone from Xiaomi’s new sub-brand meant to take on OnePlus. It seems rather commonplace in China for big mobile brands to have a sub-brand. Even OnePlus is a sub-brand of OPPO, while Huawei and ZTE have sub-brands as well.

While the Pocophone F1 hasn’t launched officially yet but that hasn’t stopped people from getting their hands on it early before the event on August 22. There are even videos on YouTube of it being  [Read More…]

The Oppo R17 offers a glimpse as to what the OnePlus 6T might look like

Look at that itty-bitty little notch!

While it can be fun to look at OnePlus as an underdog in the smartphone space, it’s important to remember that its parent company is Oppo — one of the largest phone manufacturers in the world. OnePlus phones often take a lot of inspiration from Oppo handsets that come out before them, and should that pattern continue this year, the recently announced Oppo R17 looks like an excellent foundation for the  [Read More…]

OnePlus just surpassed Samsung’s flagship phone sales in India for the first time

Counterpoint Research shows Samsung’s drop-off was steep and poorly timed.

Here’s something we didn’t see coming: OnePlus just sold more high-end phones than Samsung in India. According to Counterpoint Research, OnePlus was the top-selling manufacturer in the flagship segment (₹30,000+, or $ 435+) in India for Q2 2018, hitting an all-time high of 40% market share. Adding to the surprise is that this is data for the entire quarter (April, May, June) where the OnePlus 6 was  [Read More…]
