Samsung and Apple settle ongoing patent dispute from 2011

It’s unclear how much Samsung will need to pay under the settlement terms.

Samsung and Apple have been at each other’s throats for over seven years due to patent infringements, but on June 27, 2018, it was revealed that the two companies had finally reached a settlement.

Apple wins $539 million in damages from Samsung in design patent infringement retrial

This could be the end … well, no, probably not.

In what feels like a never-ending technology patent spat, Apple has just been awarded a hefty amount of damages from Samsung related to design patent infringement. New Samsung patent shows off embedded fingerprint scanner

A new patent has been granted which reveals Samsung’s plans for an embedded fingerprint scanner. However, it’s unlikely that this technology will be seen in the Galaxy Note 9.

BlackBerry is suing Snap Inc. for BBM patent infringements

Nobody is safe.

Snap Inc. – the parent company behind Snapchat – is being sued by BlackBerry over digital messaging patents it’s supposedly infringed on. These patents are owned by BlackBerry and were used to help create the company’s once-iconic BBM messaging service.

BlackBerry’s accusing Snap Inc. of infringing on six patents that were filed between 2012 and 2014, and two of them are the same ones that Facebook reportedly infringed on, too.

BlackBerry sues Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp for patent infringements

Facebook will be contesting the suit.

Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp are three of the biggest names in the social media space, and they’re all being sued by BlackBerry for infringing on patents the company holds for its BlackBerry Messenger app.

BlackBerry officially filed the lawsuit on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, in Los Angeles, CA, and the company is requesting that the claims are heard by a jury in court.

Apple wins two patent rulings against Qualcomm

Apple and Qualcomm’s ongoing patent wars have netted two victories for Apple.

Qualcomm’s processors — at the very least, its modems — are key for any LTE-connected device in today’s world. Trade Commission agrees to investigate Apple for alleged Qualcomm patent violation

Qualcomm claims Apple is infringing on key patents.

The U.S. International Trade Commission has announced that it will be investigating Apple following allegations from Qualcomm that the Cupertino-based company infringed on Qualcomm’s patents with the iPhone 7. Some models of iPhone 7 use an Intel modem rather than a Qualcomm one, and while Qualcomm does not claim that the modem itself violates any patents, Apple’s implementation of that modem reportedly does.

Qualcomm files patent infringement complaints against Apple, aims to ban U.S. iPhone imports

Qualcomm says the iPhone uses six inventions that Apple isn’t paying for.

Qualcomm owns a lot of IP (intellectual property). Much of it is for things we don’t think about when we are using a phone powered by one of its processors, like network data transfer and battery management. Today, it has filed a complaint with the ITC (international trade commission) against Apple, which it says uses six patented technologies without offering the correct compensation to Qualcomm.
