It’s 2018 and Android phones still can’t compare to the iPhone’s Taptic Engine

Just like on your favorite gaming controller, good haptic feedback can make all the difference in the world on your phone.

You’ve probably heard of Apple’s Taptic Engine before. It’s the vibration motor that first appeared on the iPhone 6S, eventually running out the headphone jack in the iPhone 7 and consequent models. It’s also what allowed Apple to replicate the clicking button of the old days on newer iPhones with nothing more than a firm buzz  [Read More…]

More people are buying used/refurbished phones than ever before

Why? Because $ 1000 smartphones are ridiculous.

2017 saw a lot of excellent phones get released, but it also signified a pretty steep shift in the cost of the devices we know and love. Apple’s iPhone X debuted with its infamous starting price of $ 999, the Galaxy Note 8 and Google Pixel 2 XL can both set you back $ 950, and the newly announced Galaxy S9+ will put a dent of $ 840 in your pocket.

The U.S. government’s beef with Huawei isn’t really about phones

One-liner quotes from intelligence agency officials aren’t telling the whole story about the U.S. government’s feud with Huawei.

In case you missed it this week, the heads of the FBI, NSA, CIA, and others recommended that we (meaning you and me and all consumers in the U.S.) stop using products from Chinese companies Huawei and ZTE. None of the speakers had any explicit reasons why we should heed their advice, but FBI head Christopher Wray offered this  [Read More…]
