House Appropriations Committee stops President Trump from helping ZTE

ZTE’s light at the end of the tunnel has vanished.

Last Sunday, President Donald Trump took to Twitter saying that he was working with President Xi in China to help dig ZTE out of the hole it’s been in for the past few weeks. Now, the House Appropriations Committee has issued an order preventing Trump from doing anything.

Truth is stranger than fiction. In April, ZTE was banned from using U.S. hardware or software by the Commerce Department Secretary Wilbur L. Ross, Jr. Fast forward to May and the company was banned from selling any products on U.S. military installations along with Huawei. These bans resulted in ZTE shutting down all its operations because it’s hard to make money when you can’t sell any products.

President Trump preemptively blocks Broadcom’s Qualcomm takeover, citing national security concerns

The seemingly never-ending saga of Broadcom‘s attempted takeover of Qualcomm has all-but-ended, as President Trump today issued an order that the deal will not be allowed to go through under the assertion that it would be a threat to U.S. national security. Xiaomi India head receives a well-deserved promotion.

Xiaomi India head Manu Kumar Jain, who joined the Chinese manufacturer in May 2014, has been promoted to vice president. Jain will continue to oversee the company’s Indian operations in his role as managing director. Under Jain’s leadership, Xiaomi hit several milestones, with the company now claiming 30% of the online handset market. The Indian business also crossed $ 1 billion in revenue last year.

President Obama says Google will help expand Internet access in Cuba

Google will be helping the country of Cuba connect to the Internet. In an interview, President Barack Obama stated Google plans to announce it will help expand broadband and Wi-Fi access to the Internet in that country.
