Xiaomi India head Manu Kumar Jain promoted to vice president

Xiaomi India head receives a well-deserved promotion.

Xiaomi India head Manu Kumar Jain, who joined the Chinese manufacturer in May 2014, has been promoted to vice president. Jain will continue to oversee the company’s Indian operations in his role as managing director. Under Jain’s leadership, Xiaomi hit several milestones, with the company now claiming 30% of the online handset market. The Indian business also crossed $ 1 billion in revenue last year.

President Obama says Google will help expand Internet access in Cuba

Google will be helping the country of Cuba connect to the Internet. In an interview, President Barack Obama stated Google plans to announce it will help expand broadband and Wi-Fi access to the Internet in that country.

ABC News anchor David Muir chatted with Obama as part of his historic visit to Cuba, and asked him about that subject, stating that just 5% of Cuban homes have Internet access. Obama replied:

HTC America President Jason Mackenzie promoted to global Executive Vice President

HTC has promoted Jason Mackenzie, President of HTC America, to the position of global Executive Vice President. André Lönne will take over as President of HTC America.

HTC says that in his new gig, Mackenzie will report directly to CEO Cher Wang to help launch new partnerships, along with improving relations with current partners. You can check out an interview with Mackenzine that was posted as part of our recent Android History feature.

President Obama wants ISPs to be regulated under net neutrality principles

President Barack Obama has issued a new request to the Federal Communications Commission to reclassify broadband wired Internet service in the US as a public utility, like telephone or power companies are currently classified. This is just the latest attempt to regulate Internet service providers under net neutrality principles.

Motorola names Rick Osterloh new president and COO

Motorola Mobility has a new President and COO: Rick Osterloh. Formerly SVP of Product, Osterloh is taking over the helm of Motorola from form CEO Dennis Woodside. Woodside, if you’ll recall, stepped down in September to take a position as COO of Dropbox, following Google’s selling of Motorola to Lenovo.

Motorola Mobility has announced Rick Osterloh as the new President and COO.  Osterloh is stepping into the role of former CEO Dennis Woodside who is now the COO of Dropbox.  Hopefully Osterloh can steer Motorola into the right direction especially after the acquisition from Lenovo.
