HTC’s new U12 Life mid-ranger looks pretty in a two-tone design

HTC is among the first Android phone makers to make an announcement at IFA this year. The Taiwanese brand just unveiled a new member of its flagship U12 family. It’s called the HTC U12 Life and it’s a middle-range device that positions itself below the top-of-the-line U12+, which launched a few months ago.

Despite not being a fully-fledged flagship, the HTC U12 Life does pack some great specs and features a premium design. The new handset uses a 6-inch FHD+  [Read More…]

LG’s take on the Google Assistant-powered smart display is pretty dull

At CES 2018, Google promised a lot of new Assistant-powered speakers are coming, including touch screen speakers like Amazon’s controversial Echo Show. Case in point, Lenovo just unveiled the Smart Display a few days ago, and the announcement was immediately followed by LG debuting its own touchscreen speaker called the ThingQ WK9. The ‘Soft Gold’ OnePlus 5 is a pretty phone, with one big downside

It’s easy to get excited about something that’s a limited-run exclusive.

OnePlus has once again trotted out a limited edition color of its phone, this time going with a “Soft Gold” variant of the OnePlus 5. This fair-skinned version of the OnePlus 5 has all of the exact same specs and features — 6GB of RAM, 64GB storage, etc. — as the “Slate Grey” color, and even has the same price. But it also has the distinct  [Read More…]

Samsung DeX does a pretty good job turning the Galaxy S8 into a desktop

Samsung’s “desktop experience” is not only a curious concept, but it’s quickly becoming something I like to use.

There’s more to the Galaxy S8 an S8+ than its vibrant screen, cascading glass edges, and shiny back cover. Samsung would also like you to try its new Android-powered phone to unlock a desktop operating system that can be used on a whim.

The Samsung DeX — which stands for desktop experience is a hockey-puck shaped dock with a  [Read More…]

Spotify has a new feature that lets you scan a barcode and play a song and it’s pretty f’ing cool!

This is how you go viral.

In February, Spotify removed its in-app messaging feature, which instantly made it harder to share a song with a friend. What they have now totally makes up for it.

According to Techcrunch, more details are coming Monday May 8, but a feature that lets you scan a special barcode and instantly play a song is live and it’s pretty glorious.

Each song has a unique code attached to its album art (you bring  [Read More…]

Insta360 Air review: Here, have a weird (pretty good) selfie camera

Finally, a plug and play 360-degree camera.

As much as I love taking photos with my trusty Ricoh Theta, it’s not the easiest thing in the world to use. I have to remember to keep it charged, the Bluetooth connection with my phone can occasionally be a little finicky, and while it’s thin enough to be pocketable it’s also long and needs a protective sleeve to keep the lenses safe. Most other 360-degree cameras are worse, especially  [Read More…]
