Samsung Reportedly Halts Galaxy Note 7 Production, For Now

Samsung confirms it’s ‘adjusting’ Note 7 production after new battery fire reports

Production change is ‘to ensure quality and safety matters,’ company says.

Late last night reports emerged from Korea that Samsung had “temporarily suspended” production of the Galaxy Note 7 while it investigated a growing number of battery fires in supposedly safe replacement phones.

Today the company has issued its own statement, stopping short of saying production had been halted, instead using gentler language.

A Samsung spokesperson told Android Central:

Samsung reportedly suspends Galaxy Note 7 production

Latest development follows days of reported battery fires from new Note 7.

Samsung has “temporarily suspended” production of the Galaxy Note 7, according to Korea’s Yonhap News. The outlet cites an unnamed official at one of Samsung’s suppliers.

The halt is in cooperation with consumer safety regulators from South Korea, the United States and China, the official said on the condition of anonymity.

Samsung to limit recalled Note 7s to 60% battery in Korea as report blames ‘production error’

OTA will mitigate the risk of explosions by limiting battery charge. Meanwhile a preliminary report to Korean regulators blames production error which “placed pressure on plates” in battery cells.

While Samsung won’t be remotely disabling recalled Galaxy Note 7s anytime soon, it seems the company has a plan to mitigate the risk of further battery explosions — at least in its home market of Korea.

Xiaomi’s Mi Band 2 runs into production issues

It looks like Xiaomi’s Mi Band 2 won’t be available to consumers this month. CEO Lei Jun shared on Weibo that issues with mass production of the wearable have led to a delay of one month. The tracker was initially slated to launch alongside the Mi Max phablet and MIUI 8.
