Everything you need to know about Firefox Reality browser, the VR future of the internet

New ways to browse.

Anyone who’s browsed the internet in VR understands that new ideas are needed to keep it fresh. Simply moving the 2D windows into our headsets creates something functional, but it’s nowhere near optimal. Mozilla hasn’t been sitting back, creating the likes of WebVR, a browser add-on that transforms it into a VR platform for Gear VR, Daydream, Cardboard, and the PC-based VR systems.

Now, with Firefox Reality, a browser designed from the start  [Read More…]

Available to use right within the Unity game engine.

Pokémon Go is one of the biggest mobile games to ever be released, and later this year, we’ll see similar AR games that get people moving in the real world while interacting with the lore of Harry Potter, Ghostbusters, and more. To help make the development of these titles as easy as possible, Google’s launching new Maps APIs for the Unity game engine.

According to Google:

Augmented Reality is the cool new place for Android fragmentation

The next big problem facing Android is the same as the last big problem facing Android.

One of the cool things about having an Android phone is, for the most part, the app experience is the same. There are a handful of apps which exist as exclusives to specific phones, because they rely on specific hardware or are tied to specific features only available on those phones. Everything else is available in the Play Store, the one  [Read More…]

New tech meets old toy with the $10 View-Master Virtual Reality Starter Pack

Kid-friendly VR at an amazing price.

The View-Master Virtual Reality Pack just dropped to $ 9.99 on Amazon. Its average price lies around $ 19, and this is just a dollar above its lowest price ever which it saw in late 2016.

View-Masters used to be one of the coolest toys when I was a kid. You could buy slides featuring various scenes from movies and shows, slip them into the toy and view the scene in a larger  [Read More…]

The great Virtual Reality buyer’s guide

Pick the experience that best suits your needs.

Don’t let this secret slip out, but there’s actually no such thing as “the best VR headset” right now! There are new things in hardware and software being built almost every week, and while it’s easy to look at the newest or shiniest thing and slap a blue ribbon on it there’s a lot more going on.

At the same time, there are a lot of folks eager to  [Read More…]

Huawei VR2 aims to be the one-stop headset for phone and PC virtual reality

Huawei is taking another swing at virtual reality, both in viewing and creation.

Huawei’s VR2 headset was unveiled officially in late 2017, but CES 2018 served as a Western debut and the first chance for most people to get their eyes and hands on one. This is Huawei’s second take on virtual reality, and it comes in partnership with IMAX (perhaps you’ve heard of that) instead of Google — yes, this VR headset doesn’t run Daydream.

5G gets closer to reality as initial standard is finalized

5G is a little bit closer to being the real deal.

We keep hearing about the impending launch of 5G, but the reality is that the reported 2019 launch is still quite far away. In the meantime, work continues behind the scenes to ensure that, when carriers and phone manufacturers are ready to roll it out, they know exactly what they’re working with.

To that end, a 5G milestone was hit today at the 3GPP RAN Plenary  [Read More…]

Best Gifts to Experience Virtual Reality

Invite someone to step into a new reality for a while.

There’s nothing wrong with a good old fashioned escape. Some people use books, some binge watch all of Westworld in an afternoon, and of course we all know someone who gets sucked into a game for a while. The key to any good escape is feeling immersed in the world you’re gazing into, and that’s one of the things you’ll find is much easier to do  [Read More…]

Explore real savings with Oculus Rift + Touch virtual reality for $349

The worlds are fake, but the savings are real.

The Oculus Rift and Touch Virtual Reality System is down to $ 349 on Amazon. This bundle normally goes for $ 400. The last time it had a direct price drop this low was over the Black Friday weekend. Other than that, the best deals we’ve seen usually involve buying it at full price and getting a gift card. I’d rather get the discount, myself.

Features include:
