Google’s Reply app is here and works surprisingly well

Earlier this month, Google’s Area 120 experimental division announced its latest creation – an Android app called “Reply.” Reply essentially brings Allo’s Smart Reply feature to all of your communication apps, and it’s now available for anyone to download.

Reply is still in beta, and if you want to download it, you’ll need to sideload the APK file as it isn’t available on the Play Store. Assuming you’re comfortable doing this and have a phone running Android 7.0  [Read More…]

Reply wants to add Smart Replies to all your messaging apps

Two years ago, Google announced a new feature for Inbox called “Smart Reply.” Smart Reply could automatically recommend replies for you to send based on the context of messages you received, and it later expanded to the likes of Allo and Android Messages.

Area 120 is a small “experimental program within Google”, and it’s dedicated to creating unique apps and services — many of them that never see the light of day. One of Area 120’s latest projects  [Read More…]

Gmail Smart Reply now supports Spanish

Google added a Smart Reply feature to Gmail not long ago which allows you to reply to an email with one of three phrases that’ve been pre-selected based on your writing style. They work shockingly well, and rather than sending automatically, they open the compose screen with the text already written so you can edit as necessary. It’s a great feature for simple replies.

Now Google has announced that Smart Reply supports Spanish across both Android and iOS. Though the feature is  [Read More…]

Tweet an emoji at Google for a fun reply

A cute distraction.

Admittedly, it’s always fun to tweet random emoji at Google’s Twitter account, but that’s not how this works. In an effort to show off how powerful its search engine’s Nearby capabilities really are, Google is tweeting back.

Here’s how it works: Tweet an emoji at the official Google account on Twitter and it will reply. You might get a GIF reply, as has been the case for anyone tweeting food emoji, or you might find yourself  [Read More…]

If you’re an avid Facebook user, you’ll be glad to know that the social network has enabled video replies to posts and status updates. The camera icon — which let you add photos in replies — now allows you to record and share videos as comments.

The feature was developed at Facebook’s 50th Hackathon, and is now available to all users worldwide:

Inbox by Gmail brings its Smart Reply feature to the web

Google recently introduced Smart Reply to its Inbox by Gmail mobile apps, and now the company is bringing the feature to the web interface as well. The feature is designed to populate some responses that you may end up typing, and let you just click them to send instead of having to click reply, typing your message and hitting send. From Google’s blog post:

Just like in the Inbox mobile app, Smart Reply saves you precious time  [Read More…]
