T-Mobile’s Samsung Galaxy S II is getting an update today to Android 2.3.5, software version T989VUVKL1. You’re getting a trio of “enhancements” (read: bugfixes) with this update, including caller ID, battery and Wifi calling. T-Mobile notes that the update’s not mandatory, but we can’t think of why you wouldn’t want a better phone.

You can get the update over the air, or use the Kies Mini desktop  [Read More…]

Vanilla Ice Cream Sandwich? Thou shall not pass! Samsung shows off Touchwiz 4.0

Samsung is hard at work figuring out ways to bring Touchwiz, their custom Android UI overlay, to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. They appear to be pretty far down the road already, and have released a 4 minute video demonstrating a Touchwiz-zed version of Android 4.0.1 running on a Galaxy S II device.

Though we certainly didn’t expect them to do so, we certainly hoped that Android 4.0 would be  [Read More…]

CyanogenMod team dropping support for Samsung Vibrant because of 911 issues

Samsung Vibrant

The Samsung Vibrant (the first of the original Galaxy S devices to hit the U.S.) is no longer supported by CyanogenMod.  According to developer Abhisek Devkota, issues with the way the radio interface layer interacts with the audio layer leads to a loss of the ability to dial 911, and this issue can not be solved without source code from Samsung.  In his own words:

Tis the season to be jolly. Things are finally looking good for both Motorola and Samsung in their separate battles against Apple’s tyranny in the mobile and tablet space. First up is the ruling from the court in Australia which has denied Apple’s appeal on the court’s decision to allow Samsung to sell the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the country. Apple secured an original injunction against the Android tablet in mid-October which was  [Read More…]

Samsung wins Galaxy Tab fight in Australia

Samsung Galaxy Tab

In the great battle of Apple v. Samsung, Apple has now lost the battle in Australia. The High Court of Australia has ruled that Apples case lacks merit, meaning Samsung is now in the clear to sell the tablet as it sees fit. Samsung has confirmed the Galaxy Tab 10.1 will go on sale in time for the holidays in Australia now that things have been straightened out legally.

Rumor: Samsung working on 11-inch tablet with ultra high-res display, 2GHz Exynos

Despite multiple lawsuits and the odds against it, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has been one of the most (if not the most) popular Android tablets to date. But as with every device Samsung releases, there’s always a bigger and badder sequel right around the corner. And the follow up to the Tab 10.1 sounds amazing.

Jonathan Geller of BGR has it on good word from a “trusted source” that Samsung  [Read More…]
