Here are the two things Samsung’s doing to fix the Galaxy Fold’s problems

A security mistake provided access to Samsung’s SmartThings app source code

Over 100 of Samsung’s public and private projects were accessible.

Last month, it was discovered that a GitLab instance for Vandev Lab, which is owned by Samsung, had not secured its projects with a password. As such, dozens of internal coding projects for various Samsung apps, services, and projects were set to public, which in turn provided further access to Samsung projects, including its popular smart home ecosystem SmartThings.

Without properly securing the projects with a password,  [Read More…]

Samsung’s Q1 2019 profits plunge by 60% as chip business takes a hit

Samsung isn’t making as much money from its chip business, and that’s worrying.

In recent years, Samsung has relied heavily on its semiconductor business to drive growth. With the manufacturer occupying a dominant position in the DRAM space, it was able to post record profits quarter after quarter even as its phone business saw little to no growth.

But with the global memory market seeing a decline, Samsung’s profits have taken a drastic hit. In its Q1  [Read More…]

iFixit pulls Galaxy Fold teardown at Samsung’s request

But nothing is actually erased on the internet.

Just two days after publishing a typically detailed teardown of the Galaxy Fold, iFixit has decided to remove the article from its website. We had wondered how iFixit had received its Galaxy Fold, considering just how few were out in the wild, and it turns out that it came from a “trusted partner” of iFixit originally. Samsung apparently requested, through that mutual partner, that iFixit pull its teardown from  [Read More…]

Samsung’s Motion Photos finally work with Google Photos

You can finally back up your shot-on-Galaxy animated stills.

While maybe not the most popular feature on any given Galaxy phone, Motion Photos is a fun feature within the Samsung camera app that livens up photos by capturing a few seconds before and after you hit the shutter button, embedding a short video behind each photo you take. They’re more or less the same as Google’s Motion Stills, except that Google Photos wasn’t able to properly store  [Read More…]

Samsung’s new tablets are coming soon with entertainment in mind

Samsung recently took the wraps off two of its newest tablets, the Galaxy Tab S5e and the Galaxy Tab A 10.1. As one of the only manufacturers that still care about tablets, Samsung tends to put out quality devices and these two tablets are examples of that.

The Galaxy Tab S5e  [Read More…]
