Of course Facebook ‘shared’ data with phone makers — but only because you let it happen

It’s not surprising that data was ‘shared,’ but it’s surprising that people didn’t realize what was going on.

Fresh Facebook news broke on Tuesday that the company has built decade-long partnerships with a handful of phone makers and other technology companies to more deeply integrate Facebook services and data into phones and websites. The deals offered phone makers the opportunity to integrate Facebook services directly into the contacts, dialer and launcher apps, among others — and of  [Read More…]

The social network also outlined 9 ways it’ll keep data more secure in the future.

It’s no secret that Facebook really let “you know what” hit the fan over the last couple weeks. The company’s been under fire for sharing millions of its users’ data with research firm Cambridge Analytica, and according to a post on the Facebook Newsroom, the number of people that were affected is bigger than originally reported.

Facebook had originally estimated that around  [Read More…]

Google Photos is making it much easier to tease your friends and loved ones over that latest embarrassing picture in your shared album. Thanks to the latest update to Google’s premiere photo app, people using a shared album can now leave comments on both the photos contained within and the album itself.

T-Mobile revives 10GB shared promo plan, limited time only

T-Mobile just brought back one of its best promotions to date, the family plan for families who don’t like to share data. The promotion is listed as a “Limited-time offer” but T-Mobile has not listed when the promotion will end. I’m not sure why they would do this, maybe to create a sense of urgency in potential customers, but I find it a little annoying for a company to keep information back, especially when they tout themselves as being up-front.
