Google reportedly shipped 3.9 million Pixel phones in 2017

Google saw a lot of device shipments in 2017, but it still has plenty of room to grow.

Display controversies aside, Google’s second attempt at making smartphones with the Pixel 2 was mostly successful. The smaller Pixel 2 is still one of the best Android phones you can buy, and thanks to the many improvements Google made to its hardware department from 2016 to 2017, it also saw a nice uptick in sales.

Google has shipped 10 million Cardboard VR headsets since 2014

Mobile VR usage has skyrocketed last year.

Google has announced that it shipped over 10 million Cardboard VR viewers since its launch in 2014. The company also said that over 160 million Cardboard apps have been downloaded, out of which 30 apps have over 1 million downloads. The numbers are a healthy increase from January 2016, when Google touted 5 million sales and 25 million installs for Cardboard apps.

Android shipped on nearly 9 out of 10 smartphone sold in Q3

Google has reason to celebrate this week, as a new report coming out of Strategy Analytics reveals the company’s mobile operating system, Android captured a record share of the global smartphone market in Q3. According to the info, Android shipped onboard of 87.5% of devices purchased in the three months to the end of September.

Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 edge also being shipped early by AT&T and Sprint

Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge aren’t only being shipped out early on T-Mobile, but also AT&T and Sprint too. Reports have surfaced detailing both U.S. carriers sending out pre-orders ahead of official release.

The official launch date for Samsung’s latest wave of premium smartphones is March 11, but that hasn’t prevented some U.S. and European carriers from fulfilling pre-orders ahead of time.

1.43 billion smartphones shipped in 2015, Samsung retains top spot

According to IDC, smartphone shipments hit a record 1.43 billion units in 2015, a 10.1 percent increase from 2014. In Q4 2015, shipments totaled 399.5 million units, an increase of 5.7 percent from the same period a year ago. Samsung retained its spot as the number one manufacturer, and Huawei recorded shipments of 106.6 million, netting a year-on-year growth of 44.1 percent.

Google: 5 million Cardboard viewers shipped, 25 million VR apps downloaded

Google has announced that it has shipped more than 5 million Cardboard VR viewers — this milestone comes just 19 months after the project launched. The company also notes that its seen 25 million installs of Cardboard apps from Google Play already, which shows that people are definitely interested in experimenting with them. OPPO shipped more than 50 million mobile devices in 2015

OPPO is gearing up to be a serious contender for marketshare in the mobile space now that the company has surpassed 50 million units in a single year, experiencing a year-on-year growth of 67 percent. The company is now ranked in the top ten smartphone brands worldwide, according to TrendForce. Indipendent research firm SINO MR tallied OPPO’s marketshare in China alone at 27.9 percent.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 410 used in over 550 designs and they’ve shipped more than 200 million units

Qualcomm has announced that their Snapdragon 410 processor has reached a couple of pretty significant milestones — it’s in more than 550 different mobile devices, and over 200 million have been shipped to 60-plus OEMs.

The Snapdragon 410 brings 64-bit computing and LTE radios to the sub-$ 150 price-point, and is used in phones like the Moto G, the HTC Desire 510 and the new ASUS ZenFone Max.

Many pre-ordered Galaxy Note 5s have already shipped in the U.S.

Many of us were surprised when Samsung opened up U.S. pre-orders of the Galaxy Note 5 the same day as its announcement, and it turns out the carriers are ready and willing to ship them ahead of the true sale date of August 21. Over in our Note 5 forums, dozens of members have already placed their orders from various carriers and have received shipping notices — a lucky few have even already received their Note 5s.

HTC’s new tablet Desire T7 DS shipped to India for testing

HTC is yet to announce its Desire T7 line, but two variants of the tablet have already reached India for testing, according to Zauba – a website that tracks shipment of mobile devices to and from the country.

One of the variants of the tablet that is listed on Zauba is the HTC Desire T7 DS. Shipped to India on June 26th, the slate features a 7-inch display, a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz and and dual SIM card slots as the name suggests.  [Read More…]
