Xiaomi render suggests the Mi Mix 3 will also feature a mechanical slider

Xiaomi’s upcoming Mi Mix 3 will also have a mechanical slider, but it could be very different from what we’ve already seen so far.

When Xiaomi unveiled the Mi Mix 2 last year, it mentioned that it experimented with different designs for hiding the front camera before settling on the current implementation — positioning it in the bottom bar. One of those designs included a notch much like the Essential Phone, and at the time Xiaomi said  [Read More…]

Pop-up cameras are just the evolution of the slider phone

A necessary evil before getting everything we want.

Phone companies make a lot of design decisions that, in retrospect, are very bad. We’ve seen some poor smartphone designs over the last decade, and most of them can be boiled down to an attempt to be exciting, innovative and interesting, only to backfire spectacularly because they led to massive compromises or didn’t work as intended.

So I don’t blame anyone for being skeptical when the last week brought  [Read More…]

OPPO Find X is here with a pop-up slider for all three cameras

The Find X comes with a pop-up motor that hides the cameras when not in use.

OPPO is reviving the Find series with its most ambitious device yet. The Find X comes with an innovative pop-up slider that contains all three cameras — the dual 16MP + 20MP rear camera and the 25MP front camera. The BlackBerry KEY2 is awesome, but I desperately want a Priv 2 slider

Let your backbone slide…

Like a lot of folks, I’m looking forward to having a BlackBerry KEY2 I can call my own and keep until I wear a hole in it. It’s not going to set any Android sales records, but it is the right phone for me and that’s all that really matters. Similar to the iPhone‘s hardware switch, OnePlus’s  [Read More…]

Your Moto Z might soon get a QWERTY keyboard slider

BlackBerry made the QWERTY keyboard famous, but other phones have offered such keyboards in the past. Remember the Motorola DROID 4 slider? The phone was released back in 2012, but after that the QWERTY slider disappeared from the Motorola portfolio. Well it seems the QWERTY keyboard will make a comeback soon enough. You’re probably aware […]

OnePlus has absolutely spoiled me: Every Android should have an ‘Alert Slider’

Such a simple addition makes a world of difference in usability.

There’s clearly a lot about the OnePlus 3 that impresses me. It’s fantastically built, offers great performance, has a solid camera and perhaps best of all undercuts flagship competition by hundreds of dollars. And though the OnePlus 3 doesn’t offer as many whiz-bang features as the competition, it does have one that no other phone has: its Alert Slider.

Yes, that little three-stage switch on  [Read More…]
