MrMobile: The Galaxy Note 9 is a smartphone that’s actually worth $1000

I get it, you guys: no one thinks smartphones should actually cost a thousand bucks. Motorola kicks out incredible quality on the low end with its Moto G series; the OnePlus 6 delivers a truly exceptional experience at under $ 550; and buying last year’s flagships is another smart way to save coin. Given all these options, it seems ludicrous to drop ten Benjamins for any mobile device.

But the $ 1000 phone isn’t going anywhere, folks  [Read More…]

How to print from your Android smartphone or tablet

As much as we strive to live in a paperless world, there are bound to be times when you need to print.

Fortunately, you can do that directly from your Android phone or tablet, even if you don’t have a wireless printer. Good old Google has created a system that links your printer, Chrome account and phone in order to let you print seamlessly from your mobile device.

It’s called Google Cloud Print and works with most printers out there.  [Read More…]

HTC’s next smartphone in the U12 series might not be made by HTC itself

It’s no secret that HTC’s smartphone business has been struggling for years. The company’s latest flagship, the U12+ hasn’t done much to turn things around and in July, the phone maker was forced to lay off 1,500 workers in its manufacturing unit in Taiwan.

You’ve probably heard that HTC is preparing to launch a new budget phone called the U12 Life (Imagine Life). Well, as a result of these job cuts, it seems that HTC won’t be actually making this  [Read More…]

Smartphone glass types compared (Updated 08/2018)

Updated 8/13/2018 with Gorilla Glass 6

Original Equipment Manufacturers, or OEMs, use a number of different kinds of materials to make smartphone glass. Not to be confused with the tech inside of the displays, we’re referring to the actual glass that covers them.

Most modern smartphones feature some sort of toughened glass face, the most common of which is Corning’s Gorilla Glass. Less common is the Japanese-made Asahi Dragontrail glass; rarer still is a coating that’s not glass at all,  [Read More…]

Could this be Palm’s upcoming smartphone?

Rumors about Palm’s upcoming comeback smartphone have been increasing in frequency as of late. Just a few days ago we reported that the handset which is codename Pepito is nearing launch, as it was recently spotted making a stop at the FCC.

Now the folks at Android Police have managed to get their hands on a render which allegedly shows the upcoming Pepito smartphone. Needless to say, it looks kinda weird.

While most smartphones launching today boast large, spacious displays  [Read More…]

Palm’s comeback smartphone to be called Pepito?

Back in March, we reported that TCL revealed it has plans to revive the once iconic phone maker Palm this year.

Well, it seems that a new Palm smartphone is indeed in the pipeline. In recent days a new Palm device was spotted at the FCC and Wi-Fi Alliance. What’s more, the device also appeared in the Bluetooth SIG database revealing it might be called Pepito. It’s unclear at this point whether this is simply a codename or the final  [Read More…]

OPPO’s upcoming smartphone will be the first to feature Gorilla Glass 6

The OPPO F9 series will likely be the first to offer Corning’s Gorilla Glass 6.

Corning unveiled Gorilla Glass 6 last month, offering better protection against tumbles. Corning says Gorilla Glass 6 is able to withstand multiple drops — averaging up to 15 drops from one meter — without breaking, and it’s also touted to be more resistant to scratches when seen against Gorilla Glass 5.

Today, Corning announced that Gorilla Glass 6 will make its debut  [Read More…]

MrMobile goes hands-on with Motorola’s “5G” smartphone

Before yesterday, I did not care one lick about the coming 5G smartphone revolution. After all, 4G speeds were plenty for my needs – and more importantly, I’d been there for the early days of 4G. Not LTE, mind you, but Sprint-served WiMAX: the wireless world’s worst case of over-promising and under-delivering. The notion of going through that mess again seemed deeply unappealing.

That’s probably a big part of why Motorola flew a bunch of press out  [Read More…]
