A huge move for the future of Wear OS.

Fossil Group, one of the most successful Wear OS smartwatch makers, has agreed to sell $ 40 million in smartwatch technology to Google. The deal includes intellectual property Fossil has developed, but will also include sending “a portion” of Fossil Group’s research and development team over to Google. Fossil says it will retain more than 200 R&D team members after the transaction, and it isn’t clear exactly how  [Read More…]

Google snaps up Fossil smartwatch tech in $40M deal

Google on Thursday announced a deal which sees it acquiring Fossil’s smartwatch technology and members of its research and development division. Worth around $ 40 million, the deal gives Google a dedicated team with hardware experience to work on its WearOS platform.

Does this mean that we’ll get a Pixel watch or Google Watch in the coming year? It’s hard to say, but it certainly makes sense. It’s not all that dissimilar from what Google did with HTC when it  [Read More…]

Garmin’s first LTE smartwatch is the Vivoactive 3 Music

Garmin has officially joined the LTE smartwatch fray, this week introducing the vivoactive 3 Music – Connected by Verizon. Yeah, that’s technically its full name.

Now, we have our first look at Samsung’s second non-Gear-branded wearable — the Galaxy Sport.

Today, the folks at Coolpad are announcing a new family-focused direction for many of the products coming to its portfolio. The first of this new line is a smartwatch for kids,  [Read More…]

The trials and tribulations of Withings are well documented. The once-independent hardware startup known for creating stylish, functional wearables, released a number of impressive products under the Activité and Steel lines back through 2016 — until it was acquired by newly phone-free Nokia.

Nokia, like Intel and many larger companies that struggled to integrate wearables into their long-term focus, ended up releasing minor iterations of Withings’ existing products until it reached a deal in mid-2018 to sell the  [Read More…]
