New report suggests India’s local manufacturing sector is struggling

Investment in India’s local manufacturing industry is drying up.

Earlier this month, Samsung announced that it opened a new manufacturing plant in India capable of producing 120 million handsets a year — making it the largets phone factory in the world. The move is a win for Narendra Modi’s “Make in India” initiative, which is designed to facilitate foreign investment in India’s manufacturing industry.

LG reports record Q1 profits despite struggling smartphone division

The company saw an operating profit of USD 1.03 billion for Q1 2018.

Just ahead of the G7 ThinQ unveiling, LG’s released its financial results for the first quarter of 2018. Looking at the company as a whole, Q1 saw total sales of USD 14.1 billion and operating profit of USD 1.03 billion.

Struggling LeEco gets $2.4 billion investment lifeline from Chinese real estate company

LeEco has gotten some much-needed cash from a new investor.

LeEco has been struggling financially as of late as it expands globally, but Chinese real estate holding company Sunac China Holdings seems to have faith in the company as it acquired stakes in three LeEco businesses for 16.8 billion yuan, or about $ 2.4 billion.

Pandora set to buy struggling Rdio for $75 million

Music streaming service Pandora is planning to acquire competing Rdio for $ 75 million, in an announcement made recently.

In a seperate annoucement, Rdio has said that their site will shut down within the next few weeks. However, it will continue to operate as normal for the time being.

This comes as Rdio plans to file for bankruptcy, due to low subscriber numbers and competition from services like Spotify, Google Play and Apple Music.

Intel set to merge struggling mobile business with PC chips division

Intel is gearing up to merge its mobile phone and tablet divisions with its PC chip-making division, Bloomberg reported today. The move comes in the wake of Intel’s struggle to maintain a profit in the mobile sector while operating its tablet and mobile phone businesses at a loss.

Yep, looks like Verizon’s in the midst of a pretty widespread data issue tonight, if you folks on Twitter are any indication. Could be worse, we suppose, but any outage is a bad outage, even if it is Sunday evening. Hope Verizon’s IT folks didn’t have anything planned.
