Google reportedly in talks to buy HTC smartphone business

Taiwanese press reports Google is in the ‘final stage’ of negotiations which could see it become a ‘strategic partner’ for HTC — or buy the struggling phone biz in its entirety.

Following a dire financial performance in August, resulting in the manufacturer’s lowest monthly revenue figures in 13 years, the Taiwanese press is reporting that HTC is in the “final stage” of talks with Google around a possible sale of the former’s struggling smartphone business.

Sprint and SoftBank start informal talks over T-Mobile merger

Sprint’s parent company starts mulling a merger with T-Mobile.

Executives from SoftBank — Sprint’s largest shareholder — have started “preliminary conversations” about an eventual merger with Deutsche Telekom, which owns 65% of T-Mobile, according to Bloomberg. Sprint tried acquiring T-Mobile back in 2014, but the deal fell through over regulatory hurdles. Nokia Networks is in talks with Indian carriers over 5G trials

Indian carriers are making 4G widely available in the country, and it looks like they’re starting to trial next-generation 5G services. Nokia Networks is in discussion with telecom vendors over the feasibility of 5G.

Fiat Chrysler reportedly in talks to partner with Google’s self-driving car group

Google’s self-driving car division may be getting some extra backing from established auto industry player Fiat Chrysler. According to a new report, the two firms are already in late-stage talks to collaborate on the tech giant’s self-driving car efforts.
