Pinterest snaps up the team behind keyboard app Fleksy

Pinterest has announced that it is acquiring the team behind third-party keyboard app Fleksy. Through the deal, Pinterest will acquire Fleksy’s team, but not any of the technology behind the app itself.

Twitter and Samsung team up to offer 360-degree videos from the NBA Finals

Twitter is launching support for 360-degree videos, beginning with coverage of the NBA Finals that will be filmed with Samsung’s Gear 360 camera.

The Verge states:

Starting with Game 1 of the NBA Finals later today, Twitter cards will now support video shot with 360-degree cameras, allowing users to click and drag around the scene without leaving Twitter’s app or website. Huawei and Leica team up to ‘reinvent’ smartphone photography

Huawei has announced that the company is teaming up with German photography giant Leica to kick of a strategic partnership to “reinvent” smartphone photography. The Chinese manufacturer is currently enjoying success in China, as well as supported markets, but now aims to ramp up development of more advanced experiences.

Facebook adds new Social VR team, dynamic streaming for mobile and more

Lazer Team and PewDiePie lead YouTube’s original programming premieres on Feb. 10

YouTube‘s first original programming is set to premiere on February 10. The $ 9.99-a-month YouTube Red subscription service is offering a reality series staring video game sensation PewDiePie and three movies to start, in addition to the ad-free viewing already offered.

Google launched YouTube Red in October, offering subscribers ad-free videos, a way to save video for watching while offline and more. Come Feb. 10, that will include four upcoming original series and movies:

Starbucks and Spotify team up to let you save your favorite coffee house tracks

Starbucks customers will soon be able to get a better music experience from the Starbucks app, thanks to a new partnership with the Spotify streaming music service. The new deal will let Starbucks app users save songs they hear while in their local Starbucks coffee shop. They will also be able to create a Spotify playlist of Starbucks-curated songs.

The head of Google’s Cardboard team is now in charge of all of its VR projects

Google is apparently getting more serious about entering the virtual reality market. A new report, which Google has confirmed, says that Clay Bavor, its vice-president for product management and leader of its apps team, will now be in charge of all of its virtual reality projects. Bavor was also the leader behing Google’s Cardboard VR viewer team.
