Essential Phone coming to Canada as a Telus exclusive

Telus nabs Andy Rubin’s Essential Phone for sole distribution up in Canada.

This was unexpected. Essential Phone, the titanium-and-ceramic wünderhandset from Android creator Andy Rubin’s company of the same name, will debut in Canada later this summer on Telus.

Telus rolling out Galaxy S8 and S8+ ‘red tint’ fix

The Great White North gets less red.

Telus, Canada’s second-largest network provider, has announced that it is rolling out the so-called “red tint” fix for the Galaxy S8 and S8+, which began hitting European and U.S. devices over the past week or so.

Shortly after the Galaxy S8 series was launched, some users found their Super AMOLED screens were redder than they should be, which Samsung said was a calibration misalignment that could be solved using software. An update  [Read More…]

Rogers and Telus now rolling out Nougat update to the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge

Nougat update is now live for most Galaxy S7 and S7 edge variants in Canada.

The Android 7.0 Nougat update for the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge made its way to Canadian carriers SaskTell, Bell, Virgin Mobile, Eastlink, Videotron and Freedom Mobile last week, and the 1.2GB OTA update is now rolling out to Rogers and Telus subscribers.

Telus adds even more destinations to its Easy Roam offering

Telus is looking to make it easier for customers to use their cell service while traveling abroad by adding even more countries to its Easy Roam options. In addition to the U.S., Telus says that customers traveling to England, China and more can now take advantage of its cheaper and less-confusing Easy Roam international roaming option.

Telus Galaxy Note 4 now receiving Marshmallow update

Telus is rolling out the Marshmallow update to the Galaxy Note 4. The OTA is now available, coming in at 1GB.

The carrier made the Marshmallow update available to the Galaxy S5 and the BlackBerry Priv earlier this month, with the Galaxy Note 5, S6, and S6 edge already making the switch earlier this year.

Telus promises 99% LTE coverage in Ontario and Alberta by end of 2016

Telus has announced that it plans to invest hundreds of millions of dollars into its wireless networks in Ontario, British Columbia, and Alberta this year.

As part of its staged infrastructure investment rollout across the country, the company says that by the end of 2016 it plans to cover 99% of Alberta and Ontario, and 98% of British Columbia, with LTE signal.

TELUS will roll out the Marshmallow update for BlackBerry Priv on May 3

The Canadian carrier TELUS has announced that it will begin rolling out the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update for the BlackBerry Priv on May 3.

The reveal was posted on the TELUS update schedule, and notes that the Priv will get a security update along with the Marshmallow rollout. BlackBerry began updating the Priv to Marshmallow 6.0.1 earlier this week for people who bought the phone directly from the ShopBlackBerry site in the U.S., the UK. Canada  [Read More…]

Telus may finally be updating the Galaxy S5 and Note 4 to Marshmallow

According to a new document, it appears as though Telus may be preparing to roll out the Marshmallow update for both the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4. The Marshmallow rollout has been a slow one, but we have seen lots of different phones get updated recently.

While both phones are somewhat older, that doesn’t mean that those holding onto them don’t want the latest operating system. Arjin Puri noted the changes on Twitter:

Telus begins VoLTE pilot in British Columbia on select Android phones

Telus, Canada’s second-largest wireless provider, has launched Voice Over LTE, or VoLTE, as a pilot in a small area of the British Columbia Lower Mainland before rolling it out to the rest of the country.

Currently available for the Samsung Galaxy S6 and LG G4, with other devices to come in the “near future,” according to a support page for the service, Telus notes that there are multiple benefits to using VoLTE:
