How to change the terrible keyboard on your Galaxy S10

Let’s be frank: Samsung’s default keyboard on the Galaxy S10 is not good. Touch response just seems off. Word and sentence prediction is horrible. It has lots of customization options, and that’s about all it has going for it. Thankfully Android offers everyone the opportunity to choose the keyboard that’s right for them, with zero compromises. When Samsung’s keyboard starts to grate on you to the point where you want something new, here’s how you can switch —  [Read More…]

Interstitial ads are terrible and they need to disappear

Interstitial ads are the modern equivalent of punch-the-monkey Flash banners and I’m sick of them.

Mobile Nations held a company-wide gathering recently. Most everyone from our company was there and it was awesome to see both the people I’ve met in person before and the ones I hadn’t. We’ve got a stupendous team and I love working with them. Great co-workers make this the best place to work I can imagine.

OK, enough gushing over all the  [Read More…]

This commercial makes the ASUS ZenFone 5 appear not terrible

At least the commercial is good.

When we were first introduced to the Asus ZenFone 5 at MWC this February, we came away feeling…less than excited. The ZenFone 5 is one of the most shameless iPhone X clones we’ve seen so far in 2018, and to help get your mind off its notch and vertical dual cameras, Asus has created a commercial for the phone that’s actually not terrible.

In fact, it’s pretty great.

After having OK GO  [Read More…]

Someone made a YouTube app for Android Auto, and that’s a terrible idea

The app’s called ‘YouTubeAuto’ and you can download it now.

Android Auto had a surprisingly big presence at this year’s CES. Wireless connectivity and full Google Assistant support are the two main features that are coming to Android Auto, and now there’s an app you can download that lets you watch YouTube videos while in the car.

The app is called “YouTubeAuto” and it was created by developer Kiran Kumar. You can browse all the latest trending  [Read More…]

The Note 8 made me feel better about my terrible painting skills

The Note 8’s Coloring app is one of the best reasons to use the improved S Pen.

Back in college, I was working as a bank teller between classes and needed an outlet. I didn’t want to drink more than I already did, and I already spent too much time reading books I didn’t enjoy to enjoy the ones I wanted to read, so I decided to do something else: paint.

I embraced my inner artist and  [Read More…]

The Android launcher experience on tablets is still terrible

It’s not quite a desktop, but it’s not quite a normal home screen.

The Android tablet experience is often awkward and awful, and that goes double for the launchers, which are inconsistent, inconvenient, and often times ugly. From third-party launchers to manufacturer versions of tablet layouts, there’s a lot to be desired, and while part of that blame falls on developers, it also falls to Google, which has still not quite figured out how tablets should behave.

Stop blaming smartwatches for your terrible habits

Your notification habits are terrible.

When left unchecked, phones are horrible distraction machines. Every vibration or ding must be checked and addressed, either by dismissal or by response, as soon as it happens. Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Email, and your three favorite games are desperately trying to grab your attention as frequently as possible because the people building those apps know you can’t help but check your phone as soon as the notification comes in. We’re even using  [Read More…]

Rogers makes waiting for the cable guy less terrible with new tool

It’s no secret that waiting for the cable guy is one of the biggest annoyances in the world, next to stubbing your toe or getting pineapple on your pizza (seriously, what’s up with pineapple?), but Rogers wants to change that — the first annoyance at least — with its new EnRoute tool.

Debuting a month after its latest app-based ability to track data usage in real time, EnRoute allows cable customers to track their technician within  [Read More…]
